Last night I ran a little workshop at the Kilmarnock Photographic Club Public Page! I started by showcasing some of my latest works, before getting the club involved and shooting some of their own product photography, overseeing their ideas and giving them advice. It was really lovely to see everyone's shots, and helping them achieve that final hero image! There was a really strong sense of enthusiasm which radiated throughout, and l think it really opened their eyes to a whole new world of photography to 📸
I donated some old constant lighting I no longer used to the club, and I could definitely see the excitement from members when they discovered they had access to lights - some hadn't used any before - so l know they're going to receive the love I used to give them!
Last year, I gave them a presentation all about my work and career, so it was even better to return and get to share my passion through a hands on workshop. Thank you for having me! 🫶🏻

Taking photos is only about 10% of a photographer's job. There's so many other components involved with our role. One of them being leaving the comfort zone, and that's exactly what I did this morning. I attended my first ever photographer meet up as I decided it was time to start networking more.

Being freelance can be isolating, especially if you've prior experience to working in a team, so going from co-workers to totally independent is quite the shift. For the past few months, there has been a Local Ayrshire Photographers meet up, and I had yet been unable to attend, until last week. And I am so glad I finally made it! It was really lovely to meet other people in my field and also just have a chat. Thank you Karen Simpson Photography for organising this and bringing us all together 🙌🏻

Celebrating this year by being grateful this is the industry I work in. If only 2016 me could see 2026 me, she'd be proud and buzzing that I stuck to my guts and pursued this career.
