A deep partial lunar eclipse over Waltham Abbey, Essex, photographed in the early hours of 28 August 2026. At maximum eclipse, more than 90% of the Moon was immersed in Earth’s shadow, producing the distinctive dark red and copper tones seen here above the historic Waltham Abbey skyline before daw...

The historic King Harold Memorial and pathway in the grounds of Waltham Abbey Church have been restored thanks to local partnership funding.

The Waltham Abbey Town Partnership was granted over £4,000 from our UK Shared Prosperity funds to restore and improve the famous memorial and pathway leading to it.

The Memorial commemorates King Harold’s historic connection to Waltham Abbey. It is traditionally recognised as his final resting place following his death at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. A life-size statue of King Harold stands guard over the churchyard of Waltham Abbey.

A rare sight over the UK tonight. 🌒

The partial solar eclipse of 12 August 2026, captured frame by frame as the Moon passed across the face of the Sun.

At its peak, more than 90% of the Sun was obscured from here in southern England, leaving just a brilliant crescent visible through the solar filter.

There was something quite surreal about watching something on this scale unfold so slowly from one moment to the next.

Nine stages of an event we won’t see quite like this from the UK again for a very long time.

And the soundtrack is a deliberate choice. My Dad always loved Vangelis and he would have absolutely loved seeing this tonight too. ❤️

Shot on Canon R6 Mark II with Sigma 150–600mm and Thousand Oaks solar filter.

Welcome Layne Eadie! The diminutive left full back describes himself as an honest, hardworking, and experienced player. Promotion is the goal this season. He scored a playoff-winning goal for Harlow against Hornchurch. He backed France to win the World Cup, not giving up his day job now lol !!
