In January 2025, I was invited by the Alaska Photographic Center to present about my MFA thesis, 504-907, the work created during my time at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Recently, they made that talk publicly available on Youtube.

I believe this is the only long-format video of me presenting my work, so if you've ever been interested in what I am doing with this good 'ole light-capturing device, this is a great place to learn.

A huge thank you to my professor and friend, J. Jason Lazarus, for the invitation to speak.

Second Sunday | 05-03-26 shot on EOS 1DX + 1DX MII

Second Sunday was legendary. From using the pit pass to shoot The Radiators, seeing George Porter Jr. tell the audience he wouldn’t stand before letting off an almost animalistic screech when he did stand, Clesi gave Dad and me a tour of his Jazz Fest Crawfish Narnia, this is before going up in the cherry picker. I love you, Jazz Fest. Thanks for a great 2026.

Second Saturday | 05-02-26 shot on EOS 1DX MI

Only the MI today because my MII took a dive for a week, it’s all fixed now. Second Saturday was wild, the crowd was extreme and the festival sold out. Slides 3 and 17 show a good bit of that crowd. Otherwise it was a beautiful day to float around and catch what the day had to offer.

Mixed in here are some Sauvage Fest images too. The whole informal economy that opens up outside the gates of Jazz Fest is fascinating to me. Not included in the pictures but there was a guy legitimately selling drugs on a table, not to mention all the people far more normal activities like busking, selling lemonade (presumably without drugs), and your typical “ice cold water, $1” guy.

second Friday | 05-01-26 shot on EOS 1DX MII + MI

Starting at the end of this short Fest day in this photo set. I am a pretty liberal user of my cameras, from -53 to walking in waterfalls to whatever hell a New Orleans summer day is, but this May shower nearly took both of my cameras out. They each struggled to get healthy for the next day, with one missing the second Saturday all together. Beside that, and walking in buckets of water, it was a great, shortened Jazz Fest day.

Second Thursday | 04-30-26 shot on EOS 1DX-MI

Second weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot for the Jazz and Heritage Archive as a part of the volunteer Jazz Fest photographer program. My assignment was to photograph certain food areas, the kids tent, the food and heritage stage, and contemporary arts and crafts.

With the food in particular I tried to use motion and the crowd’s movement to add elements to the images (slides 2, 16, 20 as example). It was a new, fun way to experience Jazz Fest. I have been every year of my life but always as a spectator and breaking the 4th wall was fun.

Accidentally forgot a card for my camera too, and only shot with one camera before everything got rained out.

first Sunday | 04-26-26 shot with EOS 1DX-MII

For those that don’t know, I am pursuing a PhD right now, specifically interrogating how New Orleans musical culture has changed since Katrina. A huge part of that is recognizing there have been 20 more years of age for all the elder musicians and all the legends. is one of those legends and it’s an honor to photograph him any time that I can, and both Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest were no different. Beside Big Chief Monk, I’ve got some good photos of friends, the fairgrounds, and much more!

first Saturday | 04-25-26 shot with EOS 1DX-MII

There are two photographers in New Orleans that I look up to more than anyone else: and , I admire both of their work for various reasons and in many ways I think put together their work represents a large swath of what makes New Orleans special. On this day, I had the wonderful opportunity of randomly bumping into Polo and snapping this shot (slide 1)

Included in the rest of the set are photos of Skull and Bones parading through Jazz Fest, on the Lagniappe stage, some incredible (if I do say so myself) images from Sauvage fest and several kisses! Jazz Fest is for love y’all!

First Friday | 04-24-26 shot with 1DX-MII

I floated a lot on both weekend of fest. I have some great photos of various bands but I tried to focus more on what Jazz Fest is and the draw of the festival itself, and by extension New Orleans itself too.

First Thursday of Jazz Fest | 04-23-26

For the first time in over a decade I spent all 8 days at Jazz Fest. I brought two cameras with me everyday, beside two (one day I forgot an extra card and one day a camera was out of commission due to rain). I think I walked close to 100 miles, my body is still tired but I’m pleased with the images.

In this set we’ve got Mardi Gras Indians, Big Chief Donald Harrison, Whistle Monster, and many more.
