With being unable to sleep beyond 4:30am this morning, I took the opportunity and got out early with my new-to-me, nearly 30 year old, EF 500mm f/4 lens.

It’s amazing what wildlife lives within just a 5 minute drive of the City of York.

In its inaugural year, the Charity Football Match between and Malton Old Boys was won by York Dukes FC and sees them raise The Steven Bilton Trophy in Tadcaster.

All proceeds from this match go to and will be used to help support the amazing communities they support.

Many thanks to and for reaching out and asking me to cover their charity game last Sunday against

Having co-incidentally trained with the club in recent weeks it came as a bit of a surprise to the semi-familiar faces that I was their photographer for the game.

I lost track of the scoreline but it somehow got deemed to be a draw and resulted in a penalty shootout which I’m sure all involved lost count of too.

Great bunch of lads and they’ve already decided to go ahead and book me for another of their matches in April 👏

A combative fixture ultimately ends in a 2-2 draw between and but made for a thrilling game.

Some super silky football was threaded throughout this hard fought match that ended with 10v11 in the visitors favour. Based on their reactions, both sets of fans and coaches were left feeling hard done to some of the officiating but a point a piece is better than none at this stage of the season.

Who doesn’t buy a new camera accessory and dash out to use it as close to home as you can get?

Paired my new EF 2x iii extender with my 300mm f/2.8 non-IS lens and under hazy skies managed to capture these few photos. As I’m sure everyone else is, but I can’t wait to get out in some brighter light and see what this is really capable of; it MIGHT significantly reduce my craving for a new longer lens.
