When this mama to be initially emailed me, she was quite worried that their unfinished flat wouldn't be appropriate. She sent me pictures and I was immediately excited as it was a blank canvas with gorgeous old wood floors. I had so much fun creating magic again this blank canvas with huge windows.

I never worry too much about what a home looks like as I can always find a spot that works perfectly!

So many of my newborn clients mention that they regret not having done a maternity session while pregnant. They didn't feel their best, felt sick and tired and just didn't think of it at the time. Even if you don't feel your best, it is your photographer's job to try to capture you in your best light!

I loved imagining what my children would be liked as they kicked inside my belly. I tried picturing what they would look like and who they would become. I love capturing maternity sessions because they are so filled with excitement, love and hope.

This little peanut made her mum miss her maternity session because she was born at 30 weeks. I've been doing newborn photography for almost 10 years and this was the earliest I've ever had a newborn born! Lucky for me, I got to see her again around her actual due date for an extended family session!

My mum arrives today from Canada! I'm so excited as it has been a year since she's been here!

So many of you know what it's like to live so far away from your family and not have that village to help with the little things everyday. I love bonding with you all about how we overcome the struggles and make it easier on ourselves.

I'm loving photographing older babies lately! Sometimes clients come to me who hadn't thought of doing a newborn session when baby arrived and worry it is too late to take pictures of their baby. It is never too late! Every stage is just as important as the last as it's a precious moment in time together.

I love images of a fresh baby next to their father's tattoos. Lines that they will study on their father's arms as they are cuddling and will be deeply imprinted in their minds forever. Tattoos have the most beautiful storytelling quality, just like photography, and I love being able to capture another art form within my work!

I'm always in awe how new mothers start their own business with little ones. Some photographers I know started up their businesses on maternity leave and have flourished! I was lucky that my business was a well oiled machine long before I had children because I have found the juggle with the sleepless nights, the editing, the time away from my children, the marketing, blogging and keeping my website up to date so so hard. I don't know how you guys do it!

It's so hard to wear all the hats and I'm in awe that so many mothers find the motivation to do something creative or entrepreneurial while in the trenches with a new baby. It truly is amazing what motherhood inspires and I adore seeing it on social media.

But let's remember what is behind the amazing pictures on social media. Sometimes wearing all the hats looks like me asleep on the train to a session in London because I was up late editing and up 6 times in the night with Rothko and the train guard waking me up to check my ticket asking, "Rough night?"

Something I never tire of is posing baby with their parents hands. I love how timeless they will remain and how they showcase just how tiny baby was in your hands.

One of my favourite images is of my nephew in my grandmother's hands. I love her wrinkled hands that hold so much character in the image.

Hands seem to hold so much personality and images of parents holding their new baby just seem to say, I got you, I'll always support you.

Another reason I love a more natural style of newborn photography? When I was a studio newborn photographer who did poses and props, I must admit it always felt harder to photograph newborns over 3 weeks old because my work focused on poses that required a very sleepy, womb-like baby. Now that I photograph with a more authentic look, I love photographing older newborns because they have started to smile and give the best wide-eyed expressions. Instead of worrying about a newborn's age, I focus on connection, love and capturing your family.

When I first set up my lifestyle studio I felt confined creatively by shooting the same set up again and again. For a few years I had become accustomed to being inspired by your homes and shooting in a different setting every session. I love the challenges of entering a client's home and trying to think about how I can capture beautiful, creative images within its walls.

However now that I've been doing lots of sessions in my Southampton studio, I am loving it. I love thinking about how I can portray emotion or connection through loosely guided posing rather than letting the location influence the images completely. Oh photography, I'm forever learning with you.

Did you know I've got years of experience photographing newborns? I've been doing this job for about 10 years now, it really is crazy how time has flown! I've photographed over 1000 newborns and have done many workshops on posing newborns safely. While my work is more natural now, learning how to pose newborns has helped me learn how to effectively soothe them. I love working with newborns so much and soothing them just feels intuitive now!
