Because of the remoteness of the region, Karakoram remains largely unexplored as a purely photographic subject. However, it's a truly fascinating and photogenic place, that Fosco Mariani, the great Italian climber described as the "World's Greatest Museum of Shape and Form." And here is one of the many incredible rock formations on the route to the K2 base camp - Nuding Pyramids. Absolutely gorgeous, and these peaks aren't even the big league mountains!

Traversing the Baltoro Glacier, one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions, in the same way as the great explorers of the early twentieth century was a fantastic experience and a real privilege for me. Today, it's hard to imagine that the first expeditions to K2 took one month just to reach the foot of the mountain. For us, the full trek (about 200km/120mil) took 14 days to complete (up and down). Trekking in this terrain wore me out, moving up and down on this hilly glacier surface, crossing icy rivers and camping on the freezing glacier at high altitudes (up to 5000 meters) was seriously exhausting. But I couldn't complain about such wonderful views :-)

"Mountains are not stadiums where I satisfy my ambition to achieve, they are the cathedrals where I practise my religion.” - Anatoli Boukreev.

Impressive Mitre Peak seen here from Concordia, a point of the confluence of the Baltoro, Godwin Austen and Vigne glaciers. Ten of the world’s 30 highest peaks rise there and form a great circle of mountain giants called ”The Throne Room of The Mountain Gods" by legendary American mountaineering photographer Galen Rowell.

In the Karakoram usually just the top of the highest peaks catch great light while the rest stays in shadow. That is a reason why I favourited my telephoto lens. It helped me to pull out interesting fragments of the summits and I could capture the light at its best conditions that were particularly fleeting in this kind of environment.

From the Urdukas campsite, this view of the Trango Castle and the Baltoro Cathedrals is absolutely gorgeous. Although you have a beautiful view from here, this location was also the scene of a tragedy a few years ago when a rockfall killed three porters in the middle of the night. All travelers through the Karakoram Range face objective hazards and I have to admit that this was one of the scariest camping spots I've ever been to, and I spent the entire night being accompanied by the noise of constant rockfall and glacial grumblings.

The awe-inspiring view from the Urdukas campsite. On a clear day, you can look out on mountains that jut like jagged teeth over the Baltoro Glacier’s tongue: Uli Biaho, Trango Towers, and Cathedral Peaks. Names that resonate with mountain lore and forms that evoke silent awe.

Great Trango (6386 m)

Because of the region's remoteness, Karakoram is a draw for climbers but remains largely unexplored as a purely photographic subject. However, it's a genuinely fascinating and photogenic place, that Fosco Mariani, the great Italian climber described as the "World's Greatest Museum of Shape and Form." And here is one of the most distinguishing rock formations on the route to the K2 base camp - Trango Tower. It is small by Karakoram’s standards, just a mere 6286 meters of rock, but how magnificently it is stacked! This fabulous and freakish rock tower throws out a challenge for many climbers.

A colorful sunrise above the beautiful and impressive Paiju (Paiyu / Payu) Peak - 6,610 meters. It has only been climbed once in 1976 by an Alpine Club of Pakistan expedition. Truly impressive mountain.

After a long period of silence on this page, I'm planning to share some of my newest work. These photos are from a very special place, the remote areas in the Karakoram range of Northern Pakistan, a place of legendary mountains steeped in mystery, clouds and ice. Geographically this region is untamed, remote and perfectly suited for intrepid photographers. I spent a great time between some of the highest mountain peaks on our planet, among the range that contains four peaks above 8000m, more than sixty peaks above 7000m and hundreds of spectacular rock and ice mountains over 6000m tall. I achieved my goal - to see and capture the 2nd biggest mountain on Earth - K2, aka the Savage Mountain, The King of Mountains or The Mountain of Mountains.

Hey everyone! I hope you don't mind if I ask you for your help. Today I've received excellent news - two of my images have been shortlisted in prestigious photography competition - The British Photography Awards. The overall winner will be announced in January 2021. But for now, the public voting is open for "People's Choice" Award and I'd be very grateful if you can support my work. Because two of my photographs are at the final stage of the competition, it's up to your decision which image do you prefer more. Thank you for your support!

I actually like to shoot in bad weather. Dark and unpredictable clouds can create a really interesting atmosphere for photographs, moody and sinister. I took this photo on the Isle of Arran last year when low hanging clouds combined with some sunlight produced quite mysterious quality to my work.
