When you are driving down Ayrshire way and you see an epic sunset unfold before your eyes near Alisa Craig. You just have to pull over and shoot.

There was an ISS Moon Transit in my area on Thursday night. It was about a 20 minute drive. The sky was clear, it was in a nice dark area, camera all set up and ready to go at 10:45pm. It was to happen at 10:59:57pm. As fate would have it, being a photographer in Scotland at 10:55pm the clouds started rolling in and didn't clear for 8 minutes. The whole sky was clear except where I needed it to be! Not to be outdone, I checked my app and there was another transit last night but I had to drive just south of Girvan about 1.5 hours away. It was pretty hazy, but I got the shot. If you are reading this on a phone you'll need to zoom in. I'll just wait until the next transit which will probably be next year, to get a clearer shot and maybe use a longer lens.

The Warrior King and the Hunter. Bruce's stone at Galloway Forest Park overlooking Loch Trool under the constellation of Orion the Hunter. The stone commemorates the time when Robert the Bruce sent an English army packing in that glen in March 1307. The park has one of the darkest skies in the country so I took my star tracker, and waited until the Moon (as splendid as she was, so I didn't waste the opportunity to take an HDR image of the moon with all that splendid earthshine on the dark side) to set behind the hill and did some deep sky astrophotography. The first image is a close up of Orion's belt with the flame Nebula, the Horsehead Nebula and the Orion nebula all in frame and then I zoomed in on the Orion nebula. It was pitch dark, freezing cold and really late, but worth it for the shots.

It;s been pretty mild so far this winter with most of the Snow falling up north and in the hills. No frost, no snow, so here's a wee Robin that was quite happy to pose for me. Merry Christmas to you all and all the best for the New Year.

7 Days of Skye: Day 3 - The Magical Waters at River Sligachan. The folklore goes that the faeries enchanted the water. They say if you submerge your face in the water for 7 seconds and then let the water dry naturally from your face, then you will be blessed with eternal beauty.

7 Days of Skye: Day 1 - On The Edge. The cliffs near Mealt Falls. The waterfall is normally the attraction at this location but if you look south you get just as good a view.
