Dear friends, followers, and Eastern Allied Forces family,

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that Eastern Allied Forces will be entering a state of Suspended Animation. What does this mean? It means that Eastern Allied Forces will become inactive and will not be attending any events.

Recently, I have had to step down from being the team leader for the group and take a back seat from reenactment for the foreseeable future. This is due to changes in my personal responsibilities and my decision to work more on my mental health.

The group was offered to be run by other members; however, no one has stepped forward, and no one has been able to confirm attendance at events this year.

Due to this, I have had to make the choice to make the group inactive. Eastern Allies may come back at some point, but it may not.

It breaks my heart to write this after years of hard work and research into various subjects, but this project is over.

What happens next? The page has grown very well over the years and features quite a lot of information that can’t be found anywhere else in English. The posts will be archived in a backup, and the page itself will stay up for as long as it can to preserve this knowledge.

I can only apologize if this has let anyone down; however, this was only a hobby, and I had to make a choice.

Lastly, I would like to thank you all for your support and encouragement over the years. None of this could have been possible without you. Every like, comment, and share helped make all of the hard work worth it.

Yours aye,
Eastern Allies Team Lead
J

With today being Victory Day for many post-Soviet countries, let me tell you a story about how an organization that was first on the front line when Operation Barbarossa commenced also played a quiet role in securing the German surrender.

Border Guards of the NKVD were the first troops to be engaged by the Germans when hostilities broke out on June 22, 1941. They fought ferociously all along the border from Murmansk to Odessa, buying as much time as possible. But let me tell you about one unit of Border Guards who took their fight to the heart of N**i Germany.

The 105th “Riga” Border Guards Regiment of the NKVD was formed in February 1942 to protect the Road of Life into Leningrad on Lake Ladoga.

Staying in the Reserve of the 54th Army, it would take part in combat operations to break the siege of Leningrad. After the siege, the Border Guards took part in the Riga Offensive, and for their role in the operation, they received the city's name as their title.

They were then sent to crush bandits and criminal gangs that had sprung up in Belarus during the winter of 1944-1945.

By March, they had received orders to go to Berlin and protect the headquarters staff of the 1st Belarusian Front. However, they would see heavy fighting in the city, even taking part in the storming of the Reichstag.

However, they were not done yet. On May 8, the Regiment received their last orders of the war to report to the Karlshorst Engineering School, where they were to provide security for the signing of the surrender documents.

When Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov invited Field Marshal Keitel to sign the act of surrender, the latter pushed away the ink device with writing utensils. For some reason, he didn't want to use them.

Border Guard Sergeant A. Bergin took out his personal pen and offered it to Keitel. The latter took it and silently signed all copies of the act. Thus, with the pen of the Border Guard soldier of the 105th Border Guard Regiment, fascist Germany signed its defeat and unconditional surrender.

With today being VE Day, I wanted to share with you the story of the Polish soldiers who were involved in its victory during the Battle of Berlin. The Polish People’s Army’s battle group deployed to Berlin was focused around the 1st “Tadeusz Kościuszko” Infantry Division and had some armor support from the 4th Heavy Tank Regiment, with a company-sized detachment of medium tanks and tank riders from the 1st “Heroes of the Westerplatte” Armored Brigade, along with supporting engineer and artillery units.

The 1st Division entered Berlin from the northwest in the Charlottenburg district and engaged in heavy fighting through Tiergarten, the Zoo railway stations, and the city parks and zoos, eventually reaching the vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate. At 6 a.m. on the 2nd of May, the Polish flag was hung from the Prussian Victory Column.

After the surrender of German forces, the Polish flag was hung side by side with the Soviet flag from the Brandenburg Gate, signaling that Poland indeed won its long and hard battle against N**i Germany. Its battle for independence against the USSR, however, would be quite a longer struggle.

Stay tuned tomorrow as we tell the story of another unit with a strong connection to the start of the war who was the closest at the time of victory.

May the 4th be with you all! Now we actually have a starwars connection within our own group. Our heaviest weapon is a MG-34 or in the universe is a Blast Tech DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle which is a series of Heavy repeating blasters used by the Imperial Stormtrooper corps.

In the original films they made heavy use of real life weapons to inspire the blasters in the films such as the stormtroopers E-11 Blaster is also a British Stirling SMG and many others!

Our buddies over at Duncarron Medieval Village are actually running a Star Wars event this weekend turning the village to the Planet Endor!

Wow now what a busy weekend it was for us at the The Scottish National Scale Model Show we had a great time even if we could only stay the one day due to some unforeseen circumstances.

We had some great conversations with loads of different people from all over the world Poland, Czechia and Slovakia, France, New Zealand, Hungary, Spain and more! Including great interactions from numerous veterans from 1, 2 and 15 Para the Royal Engineers and more!

We were busy non stop since the beginning and had a great time. Hopefully we will see you all again there next year! Also a big thank you to the staff of the show for having us and making sure we were managing alright!

Unrelated Pic but one of my favourites.
