Good Morning, Warriors 💜
I made poem , I’ve never shared it before. Please tell me what you think:
“You Don’t Look Sick”
“You don’t look sick,”
Says the man on the bus,
When I ask for a seat.
Because I don’t have a stick,
A wheelchair,
Or something visible for him to see.
“You don’t look sick,”
Says the bouncer at the event,
As I enter through the accessible door,
Laughing, smiling,
Excited to be there.
What he doesn’t see
Is that tomorrow,
Or maybe for the next week,
I’ll be in bed,
Crying through the pain.
No, I don’t look sick.
Because I prepared for today
For two, three, maybe four weeks in advance.
“You don’t look sick,”
Says the boss.
“You were fine yesterday,
How can you be unwell today?”
Because yesterday
I pushed myself just a little beyond my limits.
And today,
My body is paying the price.
“You don’t look sick,”
Says the friend whose plans I cancelled.
“But you were out the other day.
You looked fine.”
Yes, I was out the other day.
You saw the few hours I managed.
You didn’t see the days of rest before,
Or the days of recovery after.
You saw the highlight,
Not the hidden cost.
Hey, scream it louder—
“YOU DON’T LOOK SICK!”
Says the man in the queue,
As I rush to leave the shop.
Not because I’m rude,
But because the lights are spinning,
The noise is overwhelming,
And my body is shutting down.
The man on the bus.
The bouncer at the door.
The boss at work.
The friend whose plans I cancelled.
The stranger in the queue.
They all saw me.
But none of them saw my disability.
They saw a smile,
Not the pain behind it.
They saw me standing,
Not the strength it took.
They saw one moment,
Not the days, weeks, and months that surrounded it.
The truth is,
Not all disabilities are visible.
Not all illnesses can be seen.
And not every battle leaves a scar for the world to notice.
So the next time you think,
“YOU DON’T LOOK SICK .”
Remember—
Just because you can’t see the struggle,
Doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
💜 Invisible disabilities are real.
💜 Our pain is real.
💜 And every warrior deserves understanding, not judgement.
