The 10-ton Permenant-way Grafton Steam Crane.
Built in Bedford, England. By Vulcan Works in 1945, although rumoured to be some 10 years earlier. It lived most of its working life in Crofton, Wakefield. And around York hence its livery.
Owned by BR and was still in service when it was bought in 1982, by the KWVR P-Way & S&T Department after a few years it was bought by the railway itself.
It has since been run by the P-way working on various projects as such as:
- New crossing gates at Oakworth.
- Bridge 27 Renewal at Haworth.
- Removing scrap rails at GN Straight etc.
Over the past years the crane has also made many appearances during steam galas, to demonstrate to the public on how it works and also to help bring more lively hood into the event.
This image was taken during the Spring Steam Gala on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
