Botallack Mine - I took this photo in 2024 on a trip to Cornwall. Time for it to see the light of day.
Perched dramatically on the wild cliffs of West Cornwall, Botallack Mine is one of the most iconic remnants of Cornwall’s tin and copper mining heritage. Mining here dates back to at least the 1700s, with the mine reaching its peak in the 19th century when hundreds of men worked beneath the seabed, tunnelling far out under the Atlantic in search of valuable ore. The engine houses, including the famous Count House, stand defiantly against the elements and have become a powerful symbol of Cornwall’s industrial past. Today, part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, the site tells a story of grit, danger and determination, where generations of miners carved a living from the rock while the Atlantic crashed below
