Looking for a new hobby as the summer winds down?
Why not give club photography a try.

Our new season begins on Tuesday 1st September, and from September to May we meet every Tuesday evening from 7pm at Earsdon & Wellfield Community Centre.

Throughout the season we enjoy a full and varied programme — competitions, guest speakers, practical sessions, club outings and plenty more. Whether you’re brand new to photography or have years of experience, there’s something for everyone.

To help new members get started, we offer a free one‑month trial, so there’s nothing to lose. Just come along, see what we do, and get a feel for the club.

Our display of members’ images at Whitley Bay Library has now been updated, and it will remain in place until Friday 28th August. If you’re passing through the town, why not pop in and take a look.

Last season we held a club challenge to photograph objects representing each letter of the alphabet — all 26 of them. Recently, our Club President, Anne, created an imaginative composite image using the letters she photographed. This was presented to Matt, the owner of No Fret Café, who has kindly allowed us to display an exhibition of our images in the café.

Anne’s image now has pride of place above the front door, welcoming visitors as they come in. Well done, Anne — and thanks again to Matt for his continued support.

Club outings are an important part of our club, giving us the chance to visit new locations and experiment with different genres of photography. Recently, we took our cameras to explore the beach and harbour at Seaton Sluice. Members compiled some of their images into a slideshow with music, and this has now been uploaded to our YouTube channel. Please click on the link to view.

Throughout August, we have a display of members’ images in the exhibition area on the first floor of Whitley Bay Library. The display will be refreshed after two weeks so we can show as many prints as possible.

We also have a permanent display of members’ work at the nearby No Fret Coffee House, 54 South Parade, Whitley Bay. This has recently been updated with new images. If you’re in the town centre, why not call in for a coffee and take a look after visiting the library exhibition?

Throughout the year, we hold several practical sessions and club trips, giving us plenty of opportunities to experiment with new techniques and different genres of photography. Most recently we explored Earsdon Village with our cameras, focusing on close‑up and macro photography. Members uploaded their images to a shared album, which was then edited together with a soundtrack and uploaded to our YouTube channel.
