Early morning on the Somerset Levels, 06:37.
Glastonbury Tor rises in the distance, St Michael’s Tower catching a faint glow as the sun tries to break through.
Two swans drift along the River Brue, the water so still it doubles the reeds and the storm-cloud sky.
This is the flat, reclaimed wetland that once made the Tor an island. The Brue winds through it as both river and drain, a landscape of rhynes, peat, and old stories of Avalon.

Glastonbury Tor, 27 August, 19:46
Taken 600 metres away from the Tor, about 20 minutes before sunset.
Evening light settles over the summit as St Michael’s Tower stands against layered cloud and fading gold. Visitors wander while the Somerset Levels stretch out below. To the right, St John’s Church looks far closer than it really is.

Glastonbury Tor – Silhouette
Another follow‑up from Tuesday’s sunrise, taken at 06:28. The sun seemed to pause between cloud and horizon, holding the tower in a beautiful glow.
Love these colours!

Glastonbury Tor – Sunrise, Continued
A panoramic follow-up to yesterday’s image (taken at 06:27). This wider view was captured at 06:18, five minutes before official sunrise at 06:23. Only a minute or so earlier the sky had been on fire, a deep, burning red washing across the clouds. The colour vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.

Glastonbury Tor - eclipse day
12 August, 18:58.
The crowd had gathered around St Michael’s Tower. The light looked a bit strange: gold, with the sun’s rays breaking through, as the Moon took a deep bite out of the Sun, still climbing toward about 93%. The deepest partial eclipse seen in the UK since 1999.
Watched from a hill that has drawn people for centuries.
One of the images I almost overlooked.

Glastonbury Tor at sunset
Taken earlier today.
The clouds rolled in heavy and determined, stretching across the sky as if they meant to smother the last of the sun. For a moment it still held on, those sharp golden rays breaking through and spilling around the tower on Glastonbury Tor before the evening finally won.

Still following on from that magical colourful Sunday morning, here’s one that might look a little strange at first.
It’s an extremely wide panorama, so wide that the camera is looking back the other way (river coming under the bridge on the left and then curving away to the right).
Depending on which platform you’re viewing this on (and how much the image gets compressed), those tiny dots in the sky are birds🕊️

What do you think of these ultra-wide shots?

This is one of my personal favourites and will be going up on the wall. 🖼️

As promised, a few more from Sunday morning, taken just minutes after my previous post. You can already see the colours shifting and the mist beginning to thicken.

The first is the wider scene as the sun rose… and the second is a much closer look at all those beautiful colours along the bank that completely took me aback.
I must admit I had a little help identifying them (I’m not that clever!), but if you’re interested in the names of some of these plants:

• Common reed (Phragmites australis)
The tall upright stems with long narrow leaves and those feathery purplish-to-brown seed heads that dominate the scene

• Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera)
The leafy plants with the pretty pink-to-purple flowers (the most eye-catching blooms in the photo)

• Reed canary-grass (Phalaris arundinacea)
Likely mixed in among the denser grassy clumps; a tall wetland grass that can look a lot like young reeds

• Mixed grasses and sedges
The rest of the green and browning stems and finer foliage filling the gaps

An amazing colourful morning!

Something a little different from me:
Glastonbury Tor rising above the River Brue, taken yesterday morning just before sunrise and before the mist rolled in, hence those deep, rich colours in the clouds.
The first image shows the full landscape with clear fields and the Tor on the horizon.
The second is a closer shot of the vibrant colours along the riverbank.
More to come showing when the mist started rolling in.
