We are excited to annouce that we have received a grant from the EPSRC IAA program! We will be using this funding to update our PiCam Software to improve real time data processing as well as deliver three new PiCam systems to Argentina and the Phillipines.

We're featured in the September issue of Geographical Magazine!

Dr. Tom Pering Tom Pering was interviewed alongside our colleague Dr. Felipe Aguilera Felipe Aguilera at Ckelar Volcanes IM Ckelar Volcanes about how our PiCams are making sulphur dioxide monitoring more accessible.

Dr. Thomas Wilkes spent last week on the island of Stromboli, a volcano we are very familiar with, its one of the places we tested the PiCam in the development stage, and we are very fond of it.

Tom worked with and colleagues from INGV and the University of Manchester, comparing several different methods of measuring SO², pitting our PiCam against scanners and a thermal camera.

Tom managed to get the PiCam set up and running so quickly, he had time to go have a coffee while everyone else was still working. He came home with lots of data, so keep an eye out for a new paper in the next year.

It was quite busy in the lab last week! This can only mean one thing... FIELD WORK!

Tom Pering is off to Costa Rica with Becks to field test the SpectroGas. But they took a whole fleet of VolcanoTech kit with them (and an undergraduate student), so there should be a lot of exciting work in the pipeline.

We love a good field campaign, so stay tuned to our socials for updates from the team over the next two weeks.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Jon Willmott to our VolcanoTech team. Jon is a Professor in System Sensors at the University of Sheffield. He spent over 10 years designing thermometry and thermal imaging for industry before moving to The University of Sheffield, where he created the System Sensor Research Group which has world-leading knowledge of the infrared temperature measurement science and spectral imaging. Jon was part of the team which originally developed the low-cost UV sensing approach we use in our PiCams and he is joining VolcanoTech as Chief Commercial Officer to develop our products for application beyond the volcanic market.

Our University of Sheffield PhD Candidate, Rebecca England, has received a Pathfinder Grant from the The Explorers Club to continue field testing the SpectroGas, her new, low-cost, spectroscopy based gas monitoring instrument.

Rebecca and Dr. Tom Pering will be travelling to Costa Rica in August to trial the SpectroGas on two different volcanoes, Poas and Turrialba. They will be working alongside colleagues at the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) and comparing their SpectroGas results against existing gas monitoring equipment.
