Nice morning walk around Staveley Nature Reserve, near Ripon/Boroughbridge. Saw a few birds - large flock of low flying geese and our first ever Water Rail.

Wow! Blown away by the judges comments on this photo.

“This photograph captures the beauty of autumn in its simplest form, showcasing the intricate textures and shapes of fallen oak leaves against a contrasting stony path. The warm golden tones of the leaves pop brilliantly against the cooler, neutral greys of the stones, creating a visually striking juxtaposition. The natural arrangement of the leaves, untouched and as they fell, lends authenticity and spontaneity to the composition.

The photographer’s choice of framing strikes a delicate balance, ensuring enough of the leaves’ detail is included while minimizing the presence of the path. The crispness and clarity of the image highlight the intricate veins and edges of each leaf, emphasizing their individuality within the group.

While this minimalist shot may not convey the grander landscapes of autumn, it excels in focusing on the finer details of the season, reminding us of the beauty to be found at our feet. A beautifully observed and executed capture, deserving of its recognition.”
