Sat on a beach to take in the partial eclipse yesterday evening. Such a great atmosphere - kids running around getting excited, people on the grassy mound hanging out with food and drinks, people in the sea whooping as it happened. Yeah it was cloudy and these shots have been darkened to show it, but it didn't matter. So pleased we ventured out to enjoy a gorgeous summer evening.

We can capture a mixture of portraits such as headshots for editorials for example, or more natural images of you actually at work. These can be photographed without any interruption whilst you are doing your thing, or staged even if required.

Landscapes were always traditionally taken in landscape format for obvious reasons, but with social layouts now, I find myself taking more in portrait format.

The end use of an image can determine your composition. What layout will it be seen in, do you need space to add graphics, or text, does the layout focus where your eye travels around the image. Will the images be seen side by side, or one above the other and does this affect how you share them.

Always lots to consider with photography no matter if you print the images, or not.

When you run an event, or retreat, or workshop, you need to focus on your guests and clients and this means you get to the end of the session and realise you have no photographs to show others what to expect if they attend your next one.

Word of mouth is great, but to have images that inspire people to book on can be really positive.

I recently captured just 1 hour of the Colour Me Confident event which was enough to showcase how fabulous the afternoon was.

Along with more classic business portraits, looking at the camera, consider being photographed whilst you are at work, to show your clients what you do and how they would be involved and feel if they booked you.

Branding images and business portraits don’t have to be just a head shot with a white background anymore. People want to see you and your personality.

Meet Jo, who runs a successful business and also a networking community and wanted some up to date portraits to go with her new website and newsletter.

We spent some time capturing her portfolio of images in different locations and with different outfits and tools of her trade so she would have plenty of images to use online.

We simply took an hour to shoot the photography as we do the prep work in advance so the shoot itself flows smoothly.
