So… it’s time to address the elephant in the room: AI.
AI is an incredible tool. It can help with editing, writing posts like this one (although this one is 100% me!), and so many other parts of running a creative business.
But unfortunately, it’s also incredibly good at creating a false sense of trust.
I’m seeing more and more photographers using AI-generated images to advertise their services, and that’s a real concern. The reason? Those images aren’t their work. They’re showcasing a standard of image and consistency they may not actually be able to deliver.
AI editing is clever. It has its place. But it won’t make up for poor photography. It won’t magically transform every image into a perfect one.
And often, when you look a little deeper into someone’s portfolio, you’ll find their real work — and that’s where the true picture becomes clear.
My advice? When booking any photographer, ask to see full galleries.
Not just a handful of highlights — ask to see several complete weddings. I’d suggest a minimum of three galleries: a mixture of full-day coverage, shorter coverage, and ideally weddings photographed in different weather conditions.
Because the reality is, there’s no guarantee of blue skies. And while sunshine can be beautiful, it can also create challenges that inexperienced photographers may struggle with.
Ask the questions before booking so you understand exactly what you’re investing in.
Even photographers who only advertise with their own genuine work are naturally going to showcase their best images — that’s normal. But full galleries allow you to see the complete story: how they capture the quiet moments, the emotions, the details, and everything in between.
A wedding day isn’t a collection of perfectly posed moments. It’s a story, and your photographer should be able to tell the whole thing.
