Milky Way over Portencross Pier. North Ayrshire.

To get as much detail and little noise in the milky way as possible I had to stack 9 'Light Frames' for the foreground + 71 'Light Frames' (Normal Photos) for the sky, along with 27 dark frames (photos with the same exposure settings as the light frames but with the lens cap on), 27 'Dark Bias Frames' (photos with the lens cap on but change the shutter speed to the fastest shutter speed available - 1/4000th) and 10 'Flat Frames' (photos shot with a white cloth over the lens in front of a bright light) I used a cut piece from a white shirt to cover the lens and used a tablet with a white screen to produce the flat frames. Flat frames are used to remove vignette from the final image to reduce dark corners in the image.

I used Seqautor to stack all of the images into two working images then processed them in AstroPanel v4.2 plug-in for PS

I'll add some example images of the frames used in the comments along with information on how to capture each and what they're used for

There will be a number of top prizes up for auction including an exclusive private tour and tasting for 4ppl at Lochlea Distillery, Craigie, Ayrshire. (Auction Prizes must be paid in full by bank transfer on the evening)

The Scottish International Airshow is back on tonight and tomorrow. I'm still sitting on the fence considering whiter I'm going to head over there tonight or tomorrow or not due to the weather.

Photography wise, If the light is good it's definitely worth the trip though. this is a few of my favourites from the last couple of years.

Had a fantastic day yesterday down at Campbell Park, I was invited down to capture a few photos of the Saltcoats Victoria F.C. game against Newmains United Community FC where the Vics came away with a 2-0 win. then along to Cafe del grecos for the launch and book signing of 'Play Up Victoria' a book on the history of Saltcoats Victoria Football Club by Mark Alexander Pettigrew.

Thanks very much for inviting me along to capture this, it was great meeting everyone and was fascinating to hear all about the clubs amazing history.

Thank you so much to everyone who made it along to the mini workshop last night. as you all know the weather kind of scuppered any chance of any night sky images with the wall to wall cloud cover the befell us. But, (for me) it was a great night all the same. Just getting out and being able to meet up with some lovely like minded people and learn new things. So thank you all so much for making it a great evening.

And a massive thank you to Duncan who came to the rescue and saved the night with some steel wool which kind of demonstrated the process behind star trail. Thanks very much for that Duncan it was really appreciated!

And thank you so much once again to everyone involved, I really appreciated the opportunity from last night as I learned so much myself from the evening.....

Took a wee drive out to Portencross Castle last night when I seen the stats were showing a red alert for aurora. did get a nice wee burst of activity but it was just as it was starting to get light again. this was approx 02:20am this morning
