Stepping in front of the camera is something I rarely do, but it’s a powerful reminder of what my clients feel the moment the lights come on. This self‑portrait, taken in my studio with me holding my Zenza Bronica, reflects the calm, intentional approach I bring to every session — slowing down, focusing on the details, and creating portraits that feel genuine and timeless.

If you appreciate portraits with character, craft, and a personal touch, you’re in the right place.

In between photographing portraits and families, I find myself drawn back to my roots — to the slower rhythm of film, to the quiet spaces where light and texture do the talking. These frames from my Nikon FE feel like small pauses in the day: the church tower standing with a kind of stoic grace, the gravestones softened by time, the paths weaving through gentle contrasts of shadow and sun. There’s a stillness in these scenes that film seems to honour so naturally, letting every tone breathe.

Shot on film, developed with care, each image becomes a reminder that simplicity and patience reveal the most meaningful details. It’s in these moments — away from the studio, wandering with a camera that asks you to slow down — that I reconnect with why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

Heartfelt studio moments 💖
Some portraits speak softly but carry so much meaning. This image captures the purest kind of love — the kind that shines through a child’s smile and a simple heart‑shaped gesture. It’s a reminder that warmth and kindness are timeless, and that every photograph can hold a little piece of joy to be remembered.

In the studio, I don’t just take pictures — I capture feelings. This one is all about love, innocence, and the beauty of being yourself.

Something is grounding about slowing down with a camera in hand — especially one like my Bronica. These frames were taken during an evening walk with my wife Paula at Spike Island, Widnes, and developed by me in XTol 3. Each image — the quiet boat, the empty bench, the bridge, and the woodland light — became a moment of stillness and reflection.

Film photography has a way of reminding us to pause, breathe, and notice the beauty in everyday scenes. It’s not just about creating images; it’s about supporting mental health through mindful observation and creative expression.

This portrait highlights the calm, natural confidence that families and clients experience during their sessions here in the studio. The soft expression, thoughtful pose, and refined monochrome finish showcase the care and attention that go into creating images that feel personal, timeless, and truly representative of each individual. It’s always a privilege to capture these moments for families who trust me with their memories.

Between studio portraits and family sessions, I like to slow down and explore the mechanical beauty of the past. These frames were taken at the St Helens Bus Museum with my 1958 Rolleiflex, using Ilford FP4 Plus film developed in Xtol. The Ford Zodiac’s chrome grille and the Leyland bus’s proud badge both speak of an era when design had character and weight — every curve and emblem telling its own story. Shooting on film turns these details into tactile memories, each negative a small piece of history preserved in silver.

When I’m not photographing families or headshots, I return to my roots — film.
These frames were taken and developed with my 1958 Rolleiflex E using Ilford Delta 100 ASA and Pyro‑510 developer. Something is grounding about slowing down, composing carefully, and watching the image emerge in the tray — just as I learned back in 1983.

✨ There’s something timeless about simplicity — soft light, a confident smile, and a touch of sparkle. This portrait session captured elegance and personality beautifully, with the deep green tones adding a sense of calm and sophistication against the classic studio backdrop.

It’s always a joy to create portraits that feel both natural and refined — moments that remind us how powerful authenticity can be in front of the lens.

This portrait captures exactly what I love most about family photography — the laughter, closeness, and the beautiful mix of generations all gathered together. Every session is a reminder that family isn’t just about faces in a frame; it’s about the stories, the shared smiles, and the warmth that fills the room.

If you’d like to create your own timeless family portrait, I’d be honoured to help you capture those connections in a relaxed, welcoming studio setting. Sessions are guided gently, with plenty of space for natural interaction and genuine emotion — perfect for families of all ages.
