We returned to St Helens Heritage Festival and met up with friends old and new. Many thanks to everyone who came to our display, there was a lot of conversation about how cameras have shaped families memories, how we as photographers can be archivists as well as artists. Heritage has to be recorded and our medium of record are pictures. We were speaking to St Helens Archive about how we store, recall and display our pictures, what they mean to each and everyone of use and going forward what is important to secure for the generations to come.
We as a photography art stands at the gate way between two sister arts on the one hand we have the cinema, 24 still frames per second. 24 photographs stiched together get you one second of film, we were talking to the staff at Lucem House Community Cinema Plus+ who showed us new developments in the film media. Our grandparents - so to speak at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077046317949 The Art club St Helens were talking about how the physical media, the paint, canvas, charcoal etc influence how a picture is imagined and presented.
Amongst photographers we have the same thoughts and conversations about camera, lens and light.
We also were discussing with members of the public how many of them have old film cameras in the family and how a new generation of people are discovering film photography. We had on display film cameras from the 1960's to modern DSLR's. We discovered that photography is alive and still making an impact on peoples lives.
Out first official club night is September 14th however we are in our summer outreach season which means we are in the community and at shows and events across the northwest. Reach out to us lets connect and see how we can grows with each other.
Thanks to St Helens Libraries for inviting us and the staff at the archives for some wonderful memories and the great service they provide.
