Huangshan is a spectacular mountain range in Anhui Province, China, famous for its dramatic landscapes of granite peaks, ancient pine trees, deep ravines and ever-changing mists. These beautiful scenes have inspired Chinese artists and poets for centuries and are often depicted in traditional Chinese scroll paintings.

One of Huangshan’s most famous natural phenomena is the “Sea of Clouds.” This usually occurs in the early morning, when the rising sun warms the atmosphere and causes clouds and mist to form and move through the valleys. From the mountain peaks, the clouds can look like waves rolling across a vast, turbulent sea. Visitors often rise before dawn and climb to the viewing points in the hope of witnessing this extraordinary sight.

Huangshan is also associated with a romantic tradition. Many young couples attach small padlocks to the chains along the paths overlooking the deep ravines. After locking the padlock, they throw the key into the ravine below, symbolising a love that is meant to remain locked together forever.

The name Huangshan literally translates as “Yellow Mountain". It is one of China’s most celebrated scenic areas, where nature, art, history, and romance seem to come together.
