IBImages

IBImages I am a hobbyist photographer based in Kent and prepared to work in and around the area.

Although I like many types of photography, I mainly shoot portraits, fashion and editorial. I also love to do dance-based work and in particular ballet themed shoots. I am a co-director of Rochester Studios, in Rochester, Kent, where I also run lighting and photography workshops. I can shoot anything from headshots through to family portraits at the studio or on location and even arrange hair styling and makeup through a number of excellent contacts I have worked with.

Can’t go on a cruise and not get few shots of the lovely dancing ladies …. and men (in the interest of fairness).

Just for fun the other night I grabbed 30 minutes of M51, The Whirlpool Galaxy. Estimated to be between 25 and 31 million light years away. This is heavily cropped but I will have another goat it sometime to get some more detail.

Tadpole and Flaming Star nebulae, 12,000 and 1,500 light years away respectively.

This is 4 hours (80 x 3min exposures) of integration time using a Ha/Oiii filter. Hydrogen alpha gives off the red gas whilst the Oiii is seen as blue light. Ha is the predominant gas and it takes much longer integration times to capture the weaker Oiii gases.

First ever attempt at a ‘Hubble Palette’ image using two dual narrowband filters - Hydrogen alpha/Oxygen iii and a Sulphur ii/Oxygen iii. This is actually a second edit though (first is on my page)

45 x 120 seconds Ha/Oiii
56 x 180 seconds Sii/Oiii

The Jellyfish Nebula needs more integration time really but it was good to be able to try the process (especially given the Sii/Oiii filter cost £290!

Not a great target to choose being right next to a bright half moon but clear skies are rare lately. 90 minutes on the Jellyfish nebula, a supernova remnant in the constellation of Gemini.

The Veil Nebula saga continues. I managed to get a few more hours on it last night and it marks a bit of a milestone in the processing knowledge combining 2 sets of captures into one image. I’m only grateful that the software these days does a lot of the heavy lifting for aligning and stacking the image. This version is the result of 4.25 hours of image capture and is starting to pull out much more detail - although I think I have over ‘stretched’ it a little.

The Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant that occurred between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago, and is 2,600 light years away and about 100 light years across.
