“We were her view. We were her favourite place.” ❤️
Curly came into rescue from a puppy farm and eventually found her home with Dolly and her mum. When she first arrived as a foster, she didn’t seem to know she even had a tail. Then, on her second night, she realised dinner was happening, got so excited that her tail suddenly appeared wagging behind her, spotted it over her shoulder and promptly did zoomies around the kitchen island. Apparently that became her dinner routine for the next seven years!
She never really learnt how to play with toys, but she learnt about soft beds, pillows, chicken treats, sniffy walks and being loved. Most importantly, she learnt to trust. One of the biggest moments for her mum was the first time Curly rested her head in her lap and simply let the weight of it stay there.
Later in life Curly developed diabetes and lost her sight within weeks, but she just carried on. She still went for her walks, still greeted people and dogs, still did her little bunny clap when she was excited and still responded to “Ready, Steady, Goooooo” just as she had when she first discovered what it felt like to run and be happy.
There’s one part of Curly’s story I particularly love. Her mum once walked Curly and Dolly to the top of a hill to admire the view. While she and Dolly looked out across the valley, she realised Curly was sitting with her back to it, just looking at them.
They were her view. They were her favourite place. ❤️
Curly is sadly no longer here, but what a story she left behind. From a little dog who didn’t even seem to know she had a tail, to the Queen Mother of Bichons, completely loved, completely safe and very much home.
