A gentle start to the day in St Mary’s Church in Richmond.

Morning light through the stained glass, the Swale Singers and Dales Pop Choir finding their sound, and Fauré’s Requiem slowly taking shape.

Sophie Montgomery’s voice was bright and effortless, Roderick Williams calm and expressive, the choir settling into the music with real warmth.

A peaceful way to begin the day.

Richmond on Swale Morris Men in Reeth this evening

A lively burst of tradition filled the village tonight as Richmond on Swale Morris Men brought rhythm, colour and clatter to the cobbles.

Bells jingled, sticks clashed and handkerchiefs flew against the backdrop of Swaledale’s evening light, a joyful echo of old customs still alive and well.

The Mikeleiz Zucchi Duo at Reeth Congregational Church

Sparks flew this afternoon as saxophone and accordion met in a burst of energy and imagination.

The award winning duo brought together old favourites and bold new works, filling the chapel with rhythm and colour beneath the towering organ pipes.

A mesmerising performance that felt both intimate and electric, a perfect moment in the Swaledale Festival.

A gentle but historic moment at Reeth Surgery yesterday as Dr Mike Brookes stepped outside for the final time and turned to give one last wave to the place and the people he has cared for over so many years.

Thank you to everyone who contributed so kindly to the collection and added messages to the book. Your generosity raised £1,105, which was presented to Dr Brookes along with a framed photograph.

He was genuinely moved by the warmth shown by patients across the Two Dales.

📸 Dr Brookes leaving the surgery with a smile, a wave, and the appreciation of an entire community.

Suntou Susso – The Future is Ancestral

St Andrews Church in Grinton felt especially still last night. Soft light, quiet faces, and the bright, flowing sound of the kora rising through the space.

Suntou Susso plays it with such ease and depth, the music carrying both the weight of tradition and the spark of something new.

Coming from a long line of Gambian griots, he brings stories, rhythm and a sense of belonging that settles into the room in a very natural way.

A performance full of warmth and connection.

Playing in the Trees

A morning of rhythm and discovery among the leaves.

Percussionist and composer Delia Stevens and forestry expert Chris Curry led a small, curious group through Intake Wood, revealing how nature itself can become an orchestra.

Branches became instruments, the forest a stage, each sound shaped by wind, bark, and imagination.
A joyful, hands‑on exploration of music and landscape.

A little cooler in Swaledale today after the warm spell, but the valley feels refreshed.

Buttercups shimmer across the meadows near Reeth, stone walls tracing quiet lines through the green.

The light has softened, and everything seems to breathe again.

This morning’s walk turned into an ear show.

Jasper’s ears had their own agenda, catching the wind, chasing the ball, and generally ignoring gravity.

I just tried to keep up with the camera while they took flight.

Last night at St Andrews in Grinton, the church was filled with the ethereal sound of Systir, meaning sister in Icelandic.

Their voices bridged centuries and styles with effortless grace, weaving original songs and arrangements with works by the 11th century abbess Hildegard of Bingen and contemporary artists like Janelle Monáe and Kate Bush.

A spine tingling debut UK performance, shimmering with harmony and history beneath the stone arches.

An uplifting afternoon of brass and sunshine in Muker, led by the band’s inspirational bandmaster Allan Guy.

The music carried through the village and out across the meadows, bright, joyful, and full of that unmistakable Swaledale spirit.
