As you may be aware the Chairman will be standing down at the next AGM at the end of March 2027. We are therefore looking to elect a new Chairperson at the AGM and to possibly work with the current chairman in the meantime to ensure a smooth transition.

To help facilitate this, we are reviewing the duties currently undertaken by the Chairman and other committee members. This will help to ensure that the workload associated with the Chairperson’s role is manageable and that the committee continues to operate effectively.

As part of this process, we propose to establish some committee roles namely Membership Secretary, Competition Secretary and perhaps Vice-Chair. We are not proposing a change in the number of committee members, merely a re-allocation of existing committee roles and responsibilities.

Establishing these roles will require a change to the club’s constitution, which we intend to put before the membership for approval at the AGM.

These changes are intended to provide a clear distribution of responsibilities and ensure that the committee is well placed to support the club’s activities and deliver an effective and relevant weekly programme for the club in 2027/28 and beyond.

The purpose of this meeting is to get everyone's view on this and to get your ideas on how you want to see the club develop in the coming years. Hopefully we can also get people interested in joining the committee and we look to find a successor to the current chairman. Please make every effort to attend.

On 2nd September we have a visit from the local herpetological group. They will be bringing a selection of creatures to be photographed including lizards, snakes and spiders. We have been asked NOT to use flash but LED lights, including LED torches and phone lights will be OK. If you have your own LED light(s) please bring them along. A tripod will also be useful. We will have a few LED lights and tripods available for anyone who does not have their own.

If you have any materials suitable for staging the animals please bring them, eg hessian sacks, mossy rocks, mossy logs etc. We expect our visitors to arrive from 6:15 onwards, please leave the car park spaces either side of the door free for them. If some people could arrive at the institute early and assist with setting up, that would be great.

Next Wednesday is the last meeting of the month and so will be dedicated to the monthly 'friendly' competition. The theme for this month is CIRCLES.

As we have a few new members its worth just highlighting the main rules for the competition.

All Images submitted must be the copyright of, and must have been taken by the member entering them.

All Images must have been created within 24 months of the competition date.

Interpretation of the theme is up to the photographer but do bear in mind that if the relationship of an image to the theme is not immediately obvious, it may affect how it is seen and judged.

All Images must be printed - home or commercially made prints are acceptable.

The maximum size for all prints is A4 (portrait or landscape).

If a print is smaller than A4 or is not the normal A4 rectangular format, then please mount your image on A4 card or paper for easy display and framing. Other than this, all prints must be unframed and unmounted.

Bear in mind that prints will be displayed in a mount around 5mm less than A4 on all sides. Take this into account especially if you have detail on the edge of the images that could be obscured.

Unless specified otherwise, prints may be in colour or black and white.

The maximum number of entries per member is two.

The same image must not have been previously entered for a club competition.
Images must have no watermarks or added text unless specified otherwise.

If there is any possibility of doubt regarding the orientation of the image, please clearly indicate the top of the image on the back so it can be displayed properly.

Images which make the ‘Top 5’ will be retained for display at the POTY event at the end of the year.

Carnkie Camera Club is committed to the principle that images should be the original photographic work of the creator and with this in mind the submission of images that have been entirely computer-generated or have material elements generated with AI or similar technologies will not be accepted for club competitions.

On Wednesday 19th August we have a field trip to Mylor Yacht Harbour where there will be the opportunity to shoot in and around the marina, in the local churchyard and adjoining woods and fields.

Since car parking is free after 7pm it may be as well to schedule your arrival as soon after 7.00pm as possible to avoid potential hassle with the parking charges which we are told has been problematic in the past as payment can only be made via app and the mobile coverage is not the best.

On 12th August we have an illustrated talk by Bruce - Bruce's Greek Odyssey. which was planned quite a while ago. It has been drawn to our attention that the date and time actually coincides with the Solar Eclipse and a number of people have indicated that they will probably be watching that.

A lot of work goes into putting a talk like this together, and if we are only going to have a handful of people turn up for the talk, it may be better to reschedule. If you will be attending the talk, then please comment below, or send a message so a decision can be made.

Congratulations to all those who entered the 'Hobbies and Pastimes' competition. Such a range of quality images once again. Those who made it onto the wall were:

On Wednesday 5th August we have a field trip to 'The Track' on the Redruth-Portreath Road where there will be the opportunity for some action shots with the bikes and riders. Members may arrive earlier than for a normal field trip if they wish to take advantage of the light and 'action'.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a live track. In the interests of the safety both of yourself and riders, please be alert and take care at all times.

Wear appropriate clothing - shoes or boots - not sandals or flip-flops . If you have Hi-vis then please wear it.

Do not take any 'carry bags' onto the circuit. A small back-pack may be OK, but hand held bags are a potential hazard.

Protect your equipment. Depending on the weather the track can be very dusty or muddy, and the bikes can throw up debris. The use of a protective filter and maybe a protective sleeve may be appropriate. A microfibre cloth and/or brush could be useful.

Do not stand on the track itself, riders can come from any direction and without warning. If you must cross the track, STOP, wait, check it is all clear and cross quickly. Do not linger on the track. Be aware that some of the active tracks are close to each other with only a very narrow 'refuge' are between with bikes racing in both directions.

Some riders may have elected NOT to be photographed. These can be identified by an armband on the upper arm. Please try to avoid photographing riders displaying an armband. If you do happen to shoot them, then please delete any images featuring them.

Like many of you sad to say I fall a little outside the age range for the Young Photographer Competition, but I'm sure many of you may have children or even grandchildren that might be interested. Open to all young people from age 10 - 17.
