Carnkie Camera Club meet throughout the year on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. We are based in Carnkie Community Institute, Redruth. NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME

On Wednesday 4th November we have an evening focussed of your images. Can we please ask EVERYONE to bring THREE images on a memory stick for projection.

Which images you bring is entirely up to you. Any subject. Taken at any time. No restrictions. We will project the images in a random order, invite critique and try to guess which images were taken by which photographer.

The theme for this month's Competition is 'The Colour Blue' . As usual the interpretation of the theme is up to the photographer, however, given the subject we would expect the colour blue to be prominent in the image. For this competition ONLY COLOUR prints will be accepted. All other standard rules as outlined on the club web-site apply.

On Wednesday 21st October Darren will be leading a session on Multiple Exposure Processing. After the break we will review images taken at the Halloween Photoshoot last week. Can everyone who took part please bring along 1 or 2 (no more), images on a memory stick for projection please.

On 14th October we will have a 'Halloween' themed group shoot with a model. Please bring your camera! Any lens with a focal length of 35-85mm will be suitable. If you have a godox trigger, then bring it along - we have a few but the more we have, the easier it will be. We will be using Chanel 3.

The way the evening will work is that the model will be arranged with a particular background/lighting setup and there will be a quick demo. Members will then be invited to take their own images - one person at a time, for a set time (the time will depend on how many members we have shooting, but it will be only for a few minutes).

After the break we will have a change of lighting/backdrop and we'll the then repeat the process with the second set.

A few ground rules, especially for members who have not done one of these group shoots before:

The time you will have with the model is limited - use it wisely

Its up to you to direct the model according to the pose(s) that you want.

You will be advised what settings to use, you can of course change these as you see it, but please don't move the lights or modiefiers as it will affect everyone elses shot.

Be respectful of the model and other attendees. Avoid touching the model. If you must arrange the model’s hair for example then preferably get the model, or their chaperone to make the adjustment, if you must do it yourself, then always ask permission first. Strictly avoid any intimate touching or suggestive comments.

Only one photographer will shoot with the model at a time, other attendees should avoid taking images, talking to, or otherwise distracting the model when its not their turn to shoot.

After the break we will be looking at members images from the recent 50mm challenge at St Ives. Please bring along up to two images taken on the field trip on a memory stick for projection

The next meeting, the last of September, is the Monthly Competition. The theme for this month is OF or AT Penryn. Members are invited to submit one or two prints which have been taken in, and/or depict an aspect of the town of Penryn. Sucessful images should ideally include something that identifies the image as being linked in some way to Penryn. So for example an image of an apple on a featurelss road (even if that road in in Penryn), is unlikely to do as well as an image of an apple with a recognisable road sign or building in the background. Good luck and happy shooting.

All Images must be printed - home or commercially made prints are acceptable.
The maximum size for all prints is A4 (portrait or landscape).

If a print is smaller than A4 or is not the normal A4 rectangular format, then please mount your image on A4 card or paper for easy display and framing. Other than this, all prints must be unframed and unmounted.

Bear in mind that prints will be displayed in a mount around 5mm less than A4 on all sides. Take this into account especially if you have detail on the edge of the images that could be obscured.

Unless specified otherwise, prints may be in colour or black and white.
The maximum number of entries per member is two.

The same image must not have been previously entered for a club competition.
Images must have no watermarks or added text unless specified otherwise.

If there is any possibility of doubt regarding the orientation of the image, please clearly indicate the top of the image on the back so it can be displayed properly.
Images which make the ‘Top 5’ will be retained for display at the POTY event at the end of the year.

Carnkie Camera Club is committed to the principle that images should be the original photographic work of the creator and with this in mind the submission of images that have been entirely computer-generated or have material elements generated with AI or similar technologies will not be accepted for club competitions.

On Wednesday 23rd Sept, Brian will be leading a demo/discussion on workflow, starting with RAW files, through processing and to the production of a print.

After the break, we will be reviewing members images from Mylor and the Reptile Shoot. Please bring two images on a memory stick for projection. This can be two from Mylor or two from the reptile shoot or one from each. No more than two images per person please.

On Wednesday 16th September we have a field trip to St Ives.

We have set a Challenge for the evening, and that is to take some images using a 50mm lens (or a zoom lens set to 50mm), which we will review and critique in October.

As you may be aware the Chairman will be standing down at the next AGM at the end of March 2027. We are therefore looking to elect a new Chairperson at the AGM and to possibly work with the current chairman in the meantime to ensure a smooth transition.

To help facilitate this, we are reviewing the duties currently undertaken by the Chairman and other committee members. This will help to ensure that the workload associated with the Chairperson’s role is manageable and that the committee continues to operate effectively.

As part of this process, we propose to establish some committee roles namely Membership Secretary, Competition Secretary and perhaps Vice-Chair. We are not proposing a change in the number of committee members, merely a re-allocation of existing committee roles and responsibilities.

Establishing these roles will require a change to the club’s constitution, which we intend to put before the membership for approval at the AGM

These changes are intended to provide a clear distribution of responsibilities and ensure that the committee is well placed to support the club’s activities and deliver an effective and relevant weekly programme for the club in 2027/28 and beyond.
The purpose of this meeting is to get everyone's view on this and to get your ideas on how you want to see the club develop in the coming years. Hopefully we can also get people interested in joining the committee and we look to find a successor to the current chairman.

We will welcome from the floor questions and ideas going forwards, if you do not feel comfortable with doing this we can arrange to have a ‘hat’ so write your question down anonymously and place it in the hat for us to discuss.

Please make every effort to attend. If anyone has any problem getting to the meeting on Wednesday please let us know and we will do our best to arrange a lift.
