As a baby photographer, I think that lifestyle photography is a great choice for new parents. Lifestyle photography is different from posed studio sessions because it focuses on capturing parents and their newborns in their natural surroundings, home. Here are a few reasons why I tell my clients to embrace this type of photography:

It’s Authentic: Lifestyle photography catches the real moments and feelings of new parents and their newborns without complex posing or props. It’s a beautiful way to remember the natural beauty of a family’s special time together.

It’s convenient: It can be hard to leave the house for a photoshoot when you have a new baby, especially in the first few weeks when you’re still getting used to your new life. Lifestyle shooting is easy and stress-free because I come to you.

It’s personalised: Every family is different, and lifestyle photography lets me catch each family’s personality and style. I try to make each session fit the needs and wants of the family.

It’s versatile: With lifestyle photography, there are no limits to the types of images we can capture. There are many ways to remember this special time in your life, from close-ups of your baby’s tiny fingers and toes to family photos and unplanned moments of emotion.

What NOT to do during your newborn photo shoot.

If you’re investing in newborn photography, to remember all the magic of those first few days, you need to be beyond delighted with your images.

I’m always giving advice about outfits, posing and preparing, but what about what you shouldn’t do? That’s pretty important too, so let me tell you what you need to avoid doing if you want the best newborn photography possible.

1) Don’t allow anything to continue if you feel uncomfortable, either physically or intuitively. First off, that’s what you will remember, when you look back at your photos; it will not be the moment that steals you, but the memory of those uneasy feelings. Hopefully, you have chosen a photographer for their professionalism rather than their pricing, knowing that they have maternal and newborn safety in the forefront of their mind. Yet, if something still doesn’t feel right, just say. There is no image worth your discomfort.

2) Don’t leave any of your questions unanswered. For many, a newborn photography session may be their first (ever or with the exception of a wedding) and it can be daunting. The beauty of hiring a professional, is they are there to answer your questions, to give you the confidence needed to go into your session happy and comfortable. I welcome questions openly, because then I see your true desire to get the images you deserve.

3) Don’t let stress ruin it for you. The first two points have already explained how you can bring that sense of ease to your next photography session. However, there is still room for apprehension or stress created by changes on the day. So I’ll tell you what I tell all my clients, leave the stress to me (your photographer). I enter every session with confidence and ease. Babies are the coolest clients, but they can be so beautifully demanding. I see those demands, and I accept them lovingly. We will work around the needs of you and your baby. Your photographer will know the ebb and flow of newborn life, it really isn’t a concern for them. Ride the wave with them.

And whilst you’re here, why not DM me so we can start chatting about YOUR newborn session!

Maternity sessions don’t have to feel performative.
You don’t need to be anything but yourself. Yes, I’ll gently guide and pose you, but only to bring you into the frame more fully, not to cover anything up.
This session came from trust and a knowing that the journey to this moment hasn’t been simple. That kind of story deserves to be held tenderly and photographed honestly.

If that’s the kind of space you’re craving, my door is open. Message me to talk about your maternity session.

I photographed their first baby in this very home.

The light fell the same way it did all those months ago — soft, quiet, familiar.

Today, I returned, and that tiny baby was now a toddler.

Curious. Kind. Gently watching as I photographed their new sibling.

Time moves quietly like that.

One moment you’re cradling a newborn, the next you’re brushing hair away from a toddler’s eyes.

But photos remember.

This session felt like coming full circle.
Same family, same home.
More love in the room.

📩 I’m now booking winter 25/spring 26 newborn sessions in Berkshire and nearby.
No pressure, no posing — just presence (link in bio if you’d like to talk).

How many photos do you have of your beautiful newborn AND YOU?

For many that answer will be little to none! Funny isn’t at only 2 weeks old, you probably have hundreds of photos of your little one (fingers, toes, sleeping, sleeping, sleeping), but none of you, there with them too. Yes everyone of those baby pictures is beyond important, they change so quick, but you the one behind the camera are important too. Photography is the only language that can be understood by anyone, anywhere. So why not give your little one the chance to look back and understand you were there too. There ever loving parent.

Let’s make sure YOU are in the pictures.. Jump over to my link in bio and book a non-sales informal chat, to see if I can help you to be seen , understood and remembered.

Want to know how I got these shots?
Too often my clients tell me they love the images they see on my website and social media but that they know they’d be too awkward to get the same results.

I hear you, but…

That’s what I’m here for! it’s MY job to get that shot, not yours!
And, believe me, I’ll get that shot of you and you’ll love it!
Here’s how I do it…I make a suggestion on how I want you to sit/stand/pose, then… I WAIT. Obviously not in silence 😂, we chat and laugh and I get to know you and your journey. And all the time, I’m waiting, for that moment when you relax, when you smile because you can’t help but love that little bundle. When you touch their little fingers or nuzzle in tight. I wait for those little moments when you forget I’m there.

If you’ve been checking out my work thinking you could never end up with images like these then STOP.
You can and you will if you choose me so let’s have a (totally non-salesy) chat! Head over to my link in bio to find a time that suits you.

Some families leave an indelible mark, and I’ve had the honour of photographing this particular family not just once, but three times. There’s something uniquely special about being welcomed back into a family’s life repeatedly. It’s a trust I genuinely cherish. Observing children grow, noting the subtle changes in familial dynamics, and capturing the way a newborn cosily settles into their parents’ arms — these are the moments that make my work feel so full of meaning.

Already this year, six families I’ve previously photographed have chosen to book me again. This is the highest compliment I could receive — being entrusted with a family’s memories, not just once, but across years and milestones.

If you’re thinking about capturing a new chapter in your family’s story, I would be thrilled to hear from you. You can discover more about my approach through the link in my bio, or feel free to reach out to me for a chat.

Your baby’s world begins with you.
Did you know that those early cuddles, your gentle responses to their cries, and moments of connection are shaping your baby’s future?
Attachment theory shows us that babies build their sense of safety and trust through these small, everyday interactions. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being there. That’s where the bond grows.
Every smile, every snuggle, every moment of love—they all matter more than you know.

What’s one way you love connecting with your baby? Let me know below!
