Australia. Singapore. London.
Three places that shaped one wedding.
Emily grew up in Australia, Aaron is from London, and together they now call Singapore home. So when I started putting together their wedding film, it felt wrong to begin simply with a beautiful shot of the venue and pretend the story started there.
Because it didn’t.
It started thousands of miles away, with people travelling, lives crossing countries and two families eventually finding themselves together in London for the same reason.
That became the idea behind this film.
The opening moves through that journey before arriving back in London and at Shangri-La The Shard, where everything suddenly becomes much more immediate. From there, the city is allowed to become part of their wedding rather than simply something sitting outside the windows.
Tower Bridge. London Bridge. Crowded streets. People passing by. Emily’s dress moving through the middle of it all. Then back upstairs for the quieter moments, the ceremony, the people they had brought together and eventually a dance floor that became considerably less restrained than the black tie dress code might suggest.
I wanted the film to have that same contrast.
Refined without feeling overly polished. Editorial without losing personality. Cinematic, but still full of the little reactions and imperfect moments that make a wedding belong to the people actually living it.
For ninety seconds, this is how Emily and Aaron’s black tie London wedding felt to me.
Not simply a wedding at The Shard.
A story that travelled a very long way to get there.
