Australia. Singapore. London.

Three places that shaped one wedding.

Emily grew up in Australia, Aaron is from London, and together they now call Singapore home. So when I started putting together their wedding film, it felt wrong to begin simply with a beautiful shot of the venue and pretend the story started there.

Because it didn’t.

It started thousands of miles away, with people travelling, lives crossing countries and two families eventually finding themselves together in London for the same reason.

That became the idea behind this film.

The opening moves through that journey before arriving back in London and at Shangri-La The Shard, where everything suddenly becomes much more immediate. From there, the city is allowed to become part of their wedding rather than simply something sitting outside the windows.

Tower Bridge. London Bridge. Crowded streets. People passing by. Emily’s dress moving through the middle of it all. Then back upstairs for the quieter moments, the ceremony, the people they had brought together and eventually a dance floor that became considerably less restrained than the black tie dress code might suggest.

I wanted the film to have that same contrast.

Refined without feeling overly polished. Editorial without losing personality. Cinematic, but still full of the little reactions and imperfect moments that make a wedding belong to the people actually living it.

For ninety seconds, this is how Emily and Aaron’s black tie London wedding felt to me.

Not simply a wedding at The Shard.

A story that travelled a very long way to get there.

A wedding that crossed three countries, and somehow felt completely at home in London.

Emily is Australian. Aaron is from Essex. They live together in Singapore. And when it came to choosing where to bring everyone together for their wedding, they chose London — celebrating high above the city at Shangri-La The Shard before stepping straight out into the streets around London Bridge and Tower Bridge.

It gave the whole day an international feel without ever losing its sense of place. Black tie against glass and steel, commuters passing through London Bridge Station, evening light catching Tower Bridge, and Emily’s dress moving through streets that carried on around them as though nothing unusual was happening.

That contrast was probably my favourite part of photographing and filming it.

And that is exactly what I want.

Because beneath the black tie styling and a setting as remarkable as The Shard, this was still Emily and Aaron having one day with the people who had travelled from different parts of the world to be there with them.

A black tie London wedding, certainly.

But far more importantly, theirs.

Beneath Tower Bridge.

This is probably closer to how I naturally see London.

Not empty streets and perfectly controlled backgrounds, but people walking past, traffic moving, architecture towering overhead and a couple somehow finding their own little pocket within it.

I could have waited for a cleaner frame. I prefer this one. I love the contrast between Emily & Aaron, stylishly dressed in their black tie aesthetic, against the backdrop of a busy London landmark.

A wedding day with scale, but never without feeling.

This Grantley Hall wedding had all the elements of a modern luxury celebration: an outdoor ceremony across the lawns, editorial styling, a vintage car, daytime fireworks, elegant portraits and a party that carried the energy of the day right through to the evening.

Paige & Nari’s stunning black-tie wedding in Yorkshire quite literally had it all.

There’s a balance I’m always looking for in a wedding film- the contrast between the scale of the setting and the production around it, to the intimacy of the moments inside it. The grandeur matters, the styling matters, the movement and energy matter- but only because they frame the people at the centre of it all.

Interviewing bridesmaids for wedding film narrative 🎥

This is one of my favourite things to incorporate throughout a wedding day- filming short, informal interviews to capture truly personal narrative and soundbites, from which I can build a strong and dynamic narrative for the main wedding film.

Here’s that process in real life and as you can see, it’s not as intimidating or stressful as some may think it is. Ultra relaxed and light hearted, the narrative captured during these short on-the-day interviews means that my couples story is narrated and told by their closest friends and family- what could be better than that?

When it felt like a dream

Some wedding photographs are beautiful because of the light, the setting, the styling or the way everything came together. But the ones that stay with you are usually the ones that feel like proof — proof of how people looked at each other, how deeply the words landed, how loudly the room laughed, how quickly the day moved, and how much it all meant.

Toni and Richard’s wedding at Winters Barns had so much of that. It was colourful, emotional and full of summer warmth, but what stood out most was the feeling around them. The way their guests surrounded them during the ceremony, the laughter during portraits, the quiet nerves beforehand, the tears during speeches, and those golden moments later in the day where everything seemed to soften around them.

This is why I love photographing and filming weddings together under one creative direction. The film holds the movement, the voices and the atmosphere, while the photographs give you these still, lasting pieces of the day to come back to. Together, they tell a fuller story.
