This is a post I’ve been putting off writing for a good few weeks - but I need to stop procrastinating and get it over with.
I’m officially closing my studio doors imminently. I have a couple of bookings which have been in the diary for a few months that will still go ahead… but ultimately I’m now tying up loose ends and packing things away to be sold 😪
I’ve given my heart and soul to this business for the last five years. There have been SO MANY amazing moments. I’ve held back tears as babies have smiled for the first time in front of my camera, giggled and been silly with parents trying to get babies to smile, won the hearts of a few grissly toddlers with daft miss Rachel impressions and felt ALL the emotions when a family comes back to me - time and time again - with new additions and grown up babies that I swear I only photographed last week as a newborn.
There have also been quite a few lows. I’ve had customers who have had me bending over backwards for them and it still hasn’t been good enough. I’ve been treated like dirt even when I’m smiling and doing a good job. I’ve been ripped off, ghosted and let down countless times. The problem is - I’ve been facing all of this whilst missing my own babies at home. Most of you will know that I work full time during the week still, and therefore my studio time massively eats into my family time. I miss my little girls SO much and they deserve to have more of me than what they are getting right now. And I deserve that too ❤️
My life for the last few years has been work > rush around all evening > get the girls to bed > open laptop and start editing > sleep > repeat. I’m on the very edge of burnout and furthermore, financially I’m actually no better off 😪
The costs of running a business and trying to juggle it all have caught up with me and I am honestly just exhausted. I owe it to myself and my family to try and slow down.
If you’ve made it this far - I have good news 🥰 I will still be covering weddings and outdoor/ at home lifestyle shoots. It takes up A LOT less time, less energy and costs significantly less.
I want to say a HUGE thank you to the amazing customers I’ve had over the years. Thank you to people who have supported my business over and over by liking, sharing and engaging with my posts. Thank you for those who returned to me with their growing families and let me be a part of their lives 🥰🥰 knowing the memories I’ve captured are in your homes, printed and proud on a wall or a mantelpiece is the greatest gift.
Im so proud of myself for everything I’ve achieved and how far I’ve come. I’m going to be gentle with myself and remind myself this is a decision I have to make - even if it hurts 🥺🤍
