Hello, Yellow

Within Clayton-le-Woods,
a splash of sunshine stands proud.
A brightly painted yellow phone box,
once a link for voices, now ready to save hearts.

A public defibrillator, placed with care by the community, for the community.
Local volunteers, families, and council members came together to fund its rebirth. Not as a relic, but a lifesaver.

Anyone can use it. In an emergency, it guides you step by step and in those first precious minutes of a cardiac arrest, it could be the difference between goodbye or hello, we’re glad you came back around.

So next time you walk past that yellow phone box, do smile. Because that small act of care might just save a life one day.

A Blooming Welcome on Platform 4

At Preston Railway Station, Platform 4 bursts with colour thanks to beautiful hanging flower baskets.

Installed in 2021 by Community Rail Lancashire and local designer Michelle from So Plants, the blooms brighten the space for passengers heading to Colne and Ormskirk.

Even without in person volunteers, the cheerful display brings a warm, uplifting touch to the journey.

Step inside Preston Bus Station and you’re greeted by a striking mix of Brutalist charm and thoughtful restoration.
Opened in 1969, the interior features original Iroko wood benches, bold concrete ceilings, and distinctive white tiles.

A 2018 refurbishment carefully preserved these retro details while adding modern touches, making it both a functional transport hub and a living piece of architectural history.

On Bolton’s train platform.
One of the most reliable train business
in the north… I’ll let you guess to which
one that may be.

23rd February 2024

Opened in 1838 as Bolton Trinity Street, this historic station has embraced a greener future.

In 2025, Northern and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust added 20 wildflower planters, 16 trees, and a bug hotel, turning the bustling station into a mini eco haven.
It’s a beautiful blend of Bolton’s industrial past and its sustainable future.

Opened in 1969, Preston Bus Station is a striking example of Brutalist architecture and a proud Grade II listed landmark.
With its sweeping curves and bold design, it remains one of the largest bus stations in Europe.

More than just a transport hub, it’s a symbol of Preston’s modernist past—still connecting thousands of passengers every day with the city and beyond.

Winds Wheel

After restoration of Lytham’s Windmill, it was re-opened on Monday 20th March 1989 by the then Mayor - John Tavernor.

- October 24th 2023

Lytham Windmill, perched on the picturesque Lytham Green, is a cherished symbol of the town’s rich heritage.

Constructed in 1805 by miller Richard Cookson, this tower mill was originally used to grind wheat and oats into flour and bran. Its prominent location made it a focal point for the community, serving local farmers and contributing to the area’s agricultural economy.

In 1919, a severe gale caused the sails to spin uncontrollably, leading to a devastating fire that gutted the interior.
Two years later, the mill was donated to the town and underwent various transformations, including serving as a café and a clubhouse for local organisations.

A comprehensive restoration in 1989 revitalized the structure, and it now operates as a museum managed by the Lytham Heritage Group, showcasing the history of milling and local life.

Downcast Eyes

Just as the rain had stopped trickling.

September 18th 2023

The Georgian terraces, Victorian civic buildings, and sleek modern developments like those at Winckley Square and Bishopgate Gardens all tell stories of industry, innovation, and reinvention.

Preston’s architecture isn’t just built from stone and concrete, it’s shaped by the people who live, work, and dream here.

St. Wallys
06th June 2024

Standing proudly in Preston, St Walburge’s Church is a stunning Gothic treasure with a 309 foot spire, one of the tallest in the UK.

Built in the 1800s, its striking design features intricate carvings of saints, a grand 1855 organ, and a peaceful, spacious interior.

Whether you’re admiring the view from the outside or exploring the details inside, this beautiful church is a true gem in the heart
of the city.

Boards R Up

16th May 2022

Beat Street Café Bar, once a popular venue on Manchester Road in Preston, has been closed since 2001 and is now slated for demolition.

Originally known as The Balmoral Hotel, this establishment was a staple in the community for over a century, serving as a pub and later as a café bar.

The building, characterized by its distinctive blue-tiled exterior, has stood vacant for many years, becoming a target for vandalism and arson attempts.
