🧡 Orange

Look down on your next woodland walk...

You might discover an entirely different world. 🍄

Fungi come in an extraordinary range of colours, shapes and sizes, and some of Britain's woodland species produce the most incredible shades of orange.

They aren't simply something pretty to photograph either.

Fungi are among the great recyclers of the natural world, helping break down dead organic material and return nutrients to the soil.

Some also form fascinating underground relationships with trees and other plants.

So that little orange mushroom you almost walked past?

It could be just the tiny visible part of something much bigger hidden beneath your feet.

🍄 Do you enjoy photographing fungi?

🌿 TUESDAY’S WILDLIFE WIN — AN OLD ISLAND TRADITION LIVES AGAIN! 🌊

Sometimes a wildlife win isn’t about bringing a species back — it’s about rediscovering a way of living with the natural world. 💚

On the tiny Isle of Ulva, off the west coast of Mull, Mark Grady and Brendan Pyreman are breathing new life into a kelp-harvesting tradition that stretches back centuries.

Around 200 years ago, kelp was an important part of life on Ulva, with many islanders earning their living from the seaweed growing around its shores.

Today, Mark and Brendan are following those footsteps through their small business, Ormaig.

They gather kelp from the shoreline near their home when the tides are at their lowest, dry it outside in the Hebridean wind and sunshine, then prepare it by hand for their products. 🌊🌿

And now their Seaweed Spa Bath Soak has won the 2026 Overall Makers Prize, with the judges recognising its wonderful connection to Ulva’s landscape, history and traditional craftsmanship. 🏆

What I especially love about this story is that they don’t want to turn it into some enormous operation.

Their hope is to grow carefully while keeping what they do sustainable, local and handmade.

For me, that makes this a very worthy Tuesday Wildlife Win.

Because our wild coastlines aren’t separate from our history. Kelp beds are extraordinary marine habitats, our islands have depended upon the sea for generations, and stories like this show that old knowledge and modern conservation-minded living can sit beautifully side by side.

🌿 A centuries-old tradition, a tiny Hebridean island and a new generation finding their place beside the sea.

Now that is something worth celebrating. 💚🌊

🧡 Orange

Sometimes nature gives an animal a name that tells you exactly what to look for!

Meet the Orange-tip Butterfly. 🦋

The males have those unmistakable flashes of bright orange at the tips of their forewings, making them one of our easiest spring butterflies to recognise.

But here's something even more beautiful...

Close their wings and the underside has an intricate mottled green pattern that helps them disappear remarkably well among vegetation.

Bright orange one moment. Almost invisible the next.

Nature really is the ultimate designer. 🧡

So here I am trying to be less conspicuous (I know i have pink hair but I do put my hood up) and then i realise what Wayne is wearing and I think why bother 😂

Im looking at him the way my mother used to look at me in the outfits I appeared in 😅

Anywho we had a bit of luck tonight because whilst people were chasing the Owls (which i dont like) up and down the fields. We stayed pretty much in the same spot and a beautiful Long Eared Owl came and landed on the wall 15m from us 😍😍 plus baby Deers 🦌 and a 10 second visit from a Barnie 🦉

The pictures are from the back of camera in a moving vehicle so they dont look nothing special but! Really special moments for us 🦉👌

Super happy 😄 well done to Wayne for recommending we come out to look for them 💕

P.s will need gloves and medium coat soon!

🔎 WILDLIFE DETECTIVE MONDAY

Your first case has arrived, detectives… 🕵️‍♀️🌿

I’ve hidden most of today’s mystery animal, so this little glimpse is all you’re getting!

YOUR CLUE:
🌙 I’m usually out and about while most of you are tucked up in bed.

Think you know who I am?

👇 Put your guess in the comments — but don’t give your reasoning away! Let’s see how many people I can fool. 😂

I’ll reveal our mystery creature later.

🧡 Nature's Colour Palette – Orange

There's something rather special about catching sight of a Red Fox.

That unmistakable flash of rusty orange appearing between the trees, crossing a field at dusk or, increasingly, quietly wandering through our towns and gardens.

Foxes are incredibly adaptable animals. Although we often associate them with the countryside, they've learnt to live alongside us remarkably well — sometimes without us ever knowing they're there.

And that magnificent orange-red coat isn't just beautiful. Its colour can provide surprisingly effective camouflage among autumn leaves, bracken and woodland vegetation.

🦊 Have you ever had a memorable encounter with a fox?

📷 Even better — have you managed to photograph one?
