Not everything I do is loud.

Sometimes it’s a chandelier, a marble floor, and two people who’ve forgotten anyone else exists.

He stopped me before the ceremony and said “don’t forget about me.”

As if I ever could.

It was 31 degrees. He’d found a quiet spot in the shade, away from the crowd, watching everything unfold from a distance. By the time his granddaughter walked down the aisle he’d pulled himself up to stand. Unsteady on his feet but absolutely determined to be on his feet for that moment.

I will always, always find the people that others walk past. The ones sitting quietly at the edges. The ones who just want to know they matter on this day too.

That’s what I’m there for.
