It was one of those otter encounters this morning where I was hunkered down on the shore watching this little one feeding away at sea for well over an hour, quite happily munching away on small fish when all of a sudden there was a stramash!
I saw it emerge with something big and the wrestle to the shore commenced.
It took a good few minutes to get to the shore and the prey was continually repositioned en route but I finally realised this otter was about to dine on lobster, an absolutely impressive hunt from start to finish 🀯πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ’š

It's been a wee while since I've done one of these (thanks to everyone who's given me a wee nudge lately πŸ˜‹πŸ₯°).
My excitement for nature, photography and the Isle of Bute hasn't changed one bit and never will. My feelings for social media definitely has changed slightly in the past year or so. I've been enjoying it less and less but I do appreciate it's such a handy tool for keeping in touch and sharing the good stuff so I'm trying again πŸ˜πŸ’š

This is a wee bundle of photos from the tail end of winter, spring attempting to spring and even now a hint of summer? A mix of shots from the Isle of Bute and a few from wanders on the mainland 😍😍😍

Thank you so much for continuing to follow along my adventures. Always hugely appreciated πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

A day off work today, I decided to start it with a cycle and some otters.
In a very short spell I spotted 6 otters in total, feeding not too far from each other but I decided these two cubs would be the most fun to follow so while their mum fed away just along the shore I had this pair for a glorious 40 minutes to myself.
Crab was definitely on the menu for breakfast for these little ones, I lost count of how many but it was a constant flow to the shore and I sat and listened to every crunch.
They fed, played, snuggled, groomed and when they headed off to be reunited with mum further along the shore I snuck away happy with my lovely wee encounter in the sun πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ¦¦πŸ¦¦πŸ¦¦πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

It was a really blustery one on the shore this morning and despite a few biblical hail showers it was an absolute joy to spend a couple of hours in the company of this gorgeous wee otter.
There was a lot of munching at sea but a few were brought ashore. Some eaten in front of me and some dragged out of view 😁
Just as the feed was coming to an end I was unbelievably lucky to be sitting just a few feet away as the otter came ashore to enjoy a groom on the rocks and then we both went our separate ways very happy πŸ₯°πŸ¦¦πŸ’š

A walk up round Loch Fad this evening was rewarded with some really nice Osprey action, with 2 birds hunting at the same time on the Kirk Dam.
They had an occasional chirp at each other but both seemed determined to get on with the job in hand and both headed off with decent sized fish.
It's an absolute joy to see the birds returning to the island and their nest sites.
Here's hoping for another successful season πŸ₯°πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ’š

A glorious find on an early walk this morning. A beautiful Tawny Owl at roost.
Hopefully a new nest site to keep an eye on for this year πŸ₯°πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ’š

Last night the haze, which had been around all day yesterday, was trying it's best to hamper our attempts to photograph the northern lights. From having to regularly de-mist camera lenses to a really frustrating band of cloud sitting on the horizon, it felt like it might not happen but just after 00.30 (πŸ™ˆ) there was a good enough clearance and a lovely wee burst of activity that made the efforts so worth while πŸ₯°πŸ’š

For various reasons (mostly rain) my visits into the woods this year so far have been flying ones to make sure my boxes have been topped up with hazelnuts for the wee reds so it was really lovely to finally have a couple of sunny days this weekend just to sit in there and enjoy it and soak it all in again.
When I first walked in on Friday morning it was still pretty dark but as I was filling the boxes and putting the food out I had 3 Squirrels climbing down trees and edging their way towards me getting ready to tuck in.
As the sun started to rise the light shining through the trees was absolutely glorious and the birdsong was just joyful.
The number of Squirrels visiting increased throughout the day and the antics and chases began and it was just delightful to sit and watch and listen.
Spring is on the way, beginning to see the all the lovely wee signs and the days are starting to stretch.
After a pretty wet winter I'm feeling ready, more than ever to get out and enjoy this one πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Over the last couple of days I spent a really lovely few hours in the company of this gorgeous wee otter family on one of our shores here on Bute.
Conditions weren't ideal for otter photography, that constant easterly breeze was very much against me getting close and the light wasn't great but it was just a joy to follow along and watch the antics 😁
Sibling rivalry and cubs comical unwillingness to share food gave me my best encounter this morning when one grabbed a fish from the other and swam to the rock in front of me to munch πŸ₯°

Big thanks to the brothers Fraser for the heads up that the eagle had landed on the shore just along the road. What a stunning sight that was πŸ€―πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’š

Right from the off the red was visible to the naked eye but it just kept on building to the most stunning explosion of colour in the sky 😍😍😍
Greens and reds vibrant to the naked eye spanning east to west, overhead and briefly south. It was still going strong when I decided to get to my bed at 2am 🀣😴😍
A spectacularly epic display πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
