I'm sure that I'm not the only one to be shocked and saddened by the terrible scenes coming out of Nepal and my heart goes out to everyone both sides of the border who has lost their lives, loved ones, homes and livelihoods, as well as the families of the many foreign tourists who have been killed or are missing.

Sadly there are now over 900 confirmed dead and nearly 4,000 still missing in Nepal, including 900 hydropower workers trapped in tunnels and nearly 600 foreign nationals.

As many of my friends will know, I have been involved with charity projects in Nepal for over 12 years and in 2014 I spent a month volunteering and staying with local families there. Some of you may have even come along to one of my Nepal photography exhibitions, or the Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Nepal Earthquake charity fundraising event I helped to organise at The Crown Hotel in 2015.

Following the recent devastating floods, Harrogate Brigantes Rotary are once again working with our trusted long-term partner in Nepal, The Himalayan Gurkhas Rotary Club in Kathmandu, to raise money to help those in need. We've set ourselves an ambitious target of £12,000 and I'm doing everything I can to help us achieve it. You may have even seen me on BBC News today!

If anyone is able to share the fundraising page, or even make a donation, any contribution however small will make a big difference on the ground. Two days into the appeal we're nearly at £2,000, so we're off to a good start.

The good news is that a generous legacy gift means that all donations up to a total of £7,500 will also be match-funded, so £1,825 is actually £4,125.50 including match-funding and gift aid.

We can't change the default amounts shown on the Just Giving donation page, but if you do want to donate, you can type whatever custom donation you feel comfortable with. Also note the Just Giving 'tip' slider before you confirm your donation. Again Brigantes has no control over this, but it is fully adjustable.

If you want to donate, you can use the secure Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Just Giving link below:

I have fond memories of my time spent in Nepal, staying with local families and volunteering with the 'Changing Young Lives in Nepal' project. I'm thinking of my Nepalese friends today as they come to terms with this horrific national tragedy and of all those who have lost their lives and homes, or are mourning for loved ones.

I recently helped out Knaresborough Town Council with Knaresborough's 'Town of Culture' postcard submission. Keep an eye out for it on social media in the next few weeks

Knaresborough could be the UK Town of Culture 2028! 🏆

To celebrate our town’s incredible culture, creativity, and heritage, we’ve submitted a digital postcard to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). You can now explore our entry — along with submissions from towns across the country — on the UK Town of Culture Digital Map: 👉 https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1Su-761mY3NPLpd4d948m5ppY7R-bslw&usp=sharing

The request for a postcard from Knaresborough to support our bid for the UK Town of Culture 2028 competition arrived at the perfect moment: just as the town was buzzing from the success of this year’s Great Knaresborough Bed Race, the much loved spectacle that brings thousands of visitors and captures the quirky, joyful spirit that defines our community.

Local photographer Charlotte Gale stepped forward, offering her creative talent and extensive archive of Knaresborough imagery to design a postcard that truly reflects the town’s character. Featuring a vibrant mix of cultural highlights, heritage landmarks and community celebrations, the postcard captures the eclectic charm that makes Knaresborough unique. The imagery brings together the colour, creativity and character of the town, offering a snapshot of why Knaresborough stands out as a genuine contender for the UK Town of Culture prize.

⭐️From today, Thursday 2 July, you’ll find it on the official UK Town of Culture digital map, alongside postcards from towns right across the UK.

🎉Today is a nationwide day of celebration for every town taking part, and we’d love you to join in:

👀Keep an eye out for our postcard and give it a share.

🔎Search to see towns from every corner of the UK.

💬Tag a friend who loves this town as much as you do!

📢Please share our Knaresborough digital postcard - let’s show the UK what makes Knaresborough so special!

It's not every day Knaresborough gets a visit from The King. I think I might have even got a Royal wave!

As a professional photographer there's always a certain sense of satisfaction seeing my photos in use in a marketing campaign or brochure.

It was great to work with the team at Basco Fine Foods on the photography for their fantastic new Galacian beef trade brochure.

For my chef, butcher or hospitality professional followers, you can view the full brochure here 👇
