The Guiding Lights Trail (Lighthouses 11-20)

Despite a bit of overcast weather it turned out to be a brilliant route. The soft light really brought out the rich colours and details of these sculptures along the Barbican and Mount Batten peninsula. Reaching the halfway mark of the trail feels like a huge milestone!

Here are the details for this second batch:

Lighthouse #11: 'Playful Puffins' by Jordan Lauder

Lighthouse #12: 'The Sound' by Henry Sells

Lighthouse #13: 'Walkies' by Pip Cook

Lighthouse #14: In Memory 'Supernova' by St Luke's Staff and Volunteers

Lighthouse #15: 'Mega Murals' by Mrs Murals

Lighthouse #16: 'Gumball' by David Graham

Lighthouse #17: 'Sending So Much Love' by Emma Everitt

Lighthouse #18: 'Mildred's Mammoth Day Out' by Steve Evans

Lighthouse #19: 'Lighthaus' by Tim Sutcliffe

Spotting the Guiding Lights! 🗼✨

Hey everyone! After a short break to recharge the batteries, Focus Photography is back with a brand new solo project for the summer.

Over the next few weeks, I’m taking on the St Luke’s Guiding Lights public art trail! There are 40 incredible 2.4-meter lighthouses scattered across Plymouth, and I’ve broken the trail down into 4 solo photo walks to capture every single one of them in numerical order.

Just to be 100% clear: Focus Photography is an entirely non-commercial, independent project. I am not earning any money from these photos, nor am I affiliated with the event. I’m doing this purely to celebrate our brilliant city, showcase the incredible local artists involved, and support the amazing work done by St Luke's.

I’ve already got my physical trail map (and dropped in a donation to the charity to grab it!), so Walk 1 kicks off next week with Lighthouses 1 to 10.

Keep an eye on the page to track the journey and see Plymouth’s newest monuments through my lens!

The Creative Soul of the Barbican.
Robert Lenkiewicz (1941-2002)

Here is a closer look at the remnants of Robert Lenkiewicz’s iconic Elizabethan mural. Painted in the 1970s, this massive 3,000 square foot piece didn't just depict history Lenkiewicz used the faces of real Plymouth locals, eccentrics, and street dwellers to bring it to life.

Decades later, even as the paint fades, it stands as a powerful reminder of the raw creativity and bohemian spirit he brought to the city.
