Photography can take you to some incredible places, capturing wonderful moments. Moments that you, as the photographer, will treasure just as much as or even more than your client. On Sunday, that exact photoshoot happened.
I was commissioned by the amazing Royal Papworth Hospital to capture their Ely Cathedral Carol Concert. Those who know Ely, or have even driven past it, will know this imposing, beautiful building is something to behold. But being allowed the privilege to photograph inside, in front of an audience of over 600 people (plus being livestreamed), definitely made my hair stand on end!
My remit was simple: "Capture it like Nate." They wanted my style of unobtrusive, immersive, and powerful story-driven photos.
Typically, with these events, photography is restricted while the performance is on. But thatโs my superpower. I can be a shadow. By utilising the ambient light, getting in a few thousand steps, and using a mix of long and short lenses (and a silent camera!), I was able to capture the Ely Cathedral Octagon Singers, speakers, candlelighters, Canon James Reveley and readers without disrupting their show.
