Autumn at the Hermitage

This was a difficult autumn shot. It was super slippery, and water was streaming through my legs and beneath the tripod (you can see at the bottom). This is a long exposure, so the bride is blurred as she moved during the time the picture exposed for. I am always ultra careful when I do shots like these and brace myself on the rocks appropriately. I also hold the camera strap during the exposure, incase everything slips away under the pressure of the water: I can at least grab it and save it. This is one reason I always keep straps on my cameras. An important safety tip...

Triangulum Galaxy (M33)

One of our local galaxies, Triangulum, looks glorious through a large telescope. The blue areas are younger, hotter, supermassive stars. The orange yellow internal structure is where the older stars reside. The red - pink tinged patches are from ionised hydrogen gas - the most abundant element in the universe, which is where stars themselves begin their lives.
