I have decided to share a page dedicated to images that have some meaning for me ...... Wildlife, Portraits, Landscape, Street, Abstract ..... the subject alone may not be the important factor ....... but the occasion that surrounded it's creation is often my key element .... or I might simply just like the final visual effect !!! I will add to it when I feel inspired or have the time ...... I hope viewing them allows you to share my pleasure in creating them !!

My trip up to Loch Shiel looking for White Tailed Eagles was memorable for spending the whole day in typical Scottish very cold soaking rain and mist. So it was shooting in low light and high ISO's and trying to keep everything dry. However the Eagles spread along the 17 miles of the Loch side were found by skipper Aly Monsef of Loch Shiel Cruises and some could be tempted by the offer of a free fish. These birds in the winter months manly feed on wintering geese ... these really are stunning large birds.

If you take some Hazelnuts and add in some Red Squirrels then the fun always begins. Our all action acrobatic Reds are in the middle of their summer coat moult just now and some still retain their distinctive winter ear tufts ... it’s always great to watch their antics !!!

I went out this week with the intention of hopefully photographing some Buzzards or Sparrowhawks being brought in with the chance of an easy meal from a road kill pheasant. However the local Crow families [Corvids] had other ideas as they were currently feeding chicks. It reminded me how intelligent and resourceful the Carrion Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws and Magpies can be adapting their feeding to the time of year ... as these Rooks harvesting acorns. Unfortunately this can also apply to small birds and as I observed a couple of weeks 2 Magpies aggressively hunting a Red Squirrel. What did emerge was the distinct pecking order starting with Carrion to Rook to Jackdaw to Magpie .... fun to watch !!

Spring brings our Cuckoos back from the African Congo to find an unsuspecting nest to place a single egg in where it will after ejecting the original young be brought up by the now surrogate parents. It is great to hear their calling and on one occasion I came across 5 adult birds in the same copse of firs.
They are easily recognisable with their "tails up wings down" stance often on higher fence posts.

A trip out yesterday took me past a flight of Sand Martins very busy building nest burrows in a bank of sand, after their spring flights from North Africa. What was surprising was the amount of tumbling fights taking place which often finished on the ground in a scrap between several birds ... I have never witnessed this before.

Any time I have witnessed our Hares "Boxing" in the spring I have never had my camera with me. But they are still fascinating animals to watch as unlike rabbits they live their all lives above ground whatever the weather throws at them.
Interestingly the Hares on the Isle of Mull have shorter ears that their mainland cousins.

The winter brings an opportunity to photograph our native Red Deer Stags in their natural forest habitat. After the Rut is finished the males and females split into separate groups. The snows and extreme cold bring them down off the tops and sides of the mountains seeking food and with luck easier to photograph.
They are truly magnificent animals and a pleasure to observe.

During the winter months we potentially have visitors in the shape of flocks of Waxwings. They come from the Nordic Countries and Russia seeking food from our berry bushes and trees. The number arriving is dictated by the severity of the winter and the available food stocks at home. Stunning and very dextrous birds to watch as they strip off the berries.
