Goonhilly Antenna 6, taken on a clear moonlit night.

This antenna was comssioned in 1985 to transmit the Live Aid concert around the world.

It's been a while since I've posted anything, what with starting a new job and things. Hopefully that should change soon!

Cricket Green Energy

Taken at Penzance cricket ground, looking towards the wind generator at Penwith College. The sky was perfect for this shot until I started taking it - the weather quickly closed in and I just managed to get all 6 shots done before the heavens opened!

The Haunted House...

An incredible storm raged over Penzance last night. I haven't seen anything like that for a long time. I managed to get a few good shots.

The technique I found to work was to set the camera up on the tripod, set the exposure to something around 20 seconds with a small aperture. This would normally give you a dark shot of the street. Wait for a lull.

Click the shutter and wait for a bolt of lightning.

If you get a good bright one, put the lens cap on or cover it in some way so you don't brighten the scene and lose the lightning.

Repeat... a lot.... the best bolts I saw were invariably while I was preparing the camera for another go... patience is needed!

The sky was still quite light while this was going on, so if this had been on a dark night the settings would need to be different.

Taking A Reading

This was taken at Torre in the Serra da Estrela mountains in Portugal. At 2000 meters it's mainland Portugal's highest point.

Apparently, since the actual height of the land is 7 meters short, they built the tower to ensure it reached the full 2k. The only reason to go there in the summer is to say that you have - there are a number of shops, but they all sell the same cheese and ham that you can get in the valley!

It was a stunning day when we arrived, and I couldn't help but take a shot of this lone snapper out on the rocks.
