While visiting family in Wales, I went for a wander around Cardiff Bay one evening.

It was on this day that the government announced the wild fire warning - which was first issued in Welsh which caused obvious confusion to everyone around me looking at their phones. It was reissued in English 10-15 minutes later.

I just happened to wake up well before sunrise this morning (I do that a lot to be fair), so I decided to nip over to nearby Mylor Yacht Harbour for a wonder with the camera.

It had rained a little overnight which created some pleasing reflections of the boat hoist in the puddles.

Surfers on the Gwithian beach. I was first drawn to shooting the shapes and patterns of the pools left by the receding tide. But it was only when I included a surfer small in the frame that the pictures came together.

When I spotted this rivlet snaking through near pristine sand toward the lighthouse, I knew I would shoot a minimalist style shot! I chose a long exposure to remove detail from the waves.

With a forecast of an overcast sky (my conditions of choice for woodland photography) with potential for rain (which may have had me abandoning the walk/shoot), I decided to stay super local and headed to Kennall Vale Woods.

I've been here quite a few times before, so I set out determined to find new angles and compositions I haven't shoot before. This was probably made easier by the winter storms which I think must have brought down some trees...

The sunrises are getting too early for me now. But rather than give up, I'm just getting out as early as I can.

Today, I decided to stay local - allowing me to get to location earlier to catch the morning light with fewer people around.

I left my big professional camera at home and used my stealthy Ricoh GR3x pocket camera. In fact, it was a walk around here a year ago that inspired me to buy the camera!

Got the long lens out at my Dad's house last Sunday. It was a little too windy really. I grabbed shots of a few different types of garden birds, but this shot of a Chaffinch was the only one sharp enough and composed well enough to share...
