Chasing light, attempting to capture it definitively with pixels (and sometimes emulsion), and seeing some amazing sights along the way.

I’ve been in the photographic doldrums for probably a year or more. Interest waned and you can’t force it. Walk away and do something else instead, it will return. Saying that, a holiday in the mountains is a great motivator. I generally prefer a long lens for mountain images. Bringing a small part of a much bigger scene in close as a study is what I find more rewarding.

Planned on visiting this location for sunrise this morning. Alarm at 6, looked outside and it looked overcast so abandoned that, headed instead for Penmachno. It was 10:30am by this point, then discovered the road was closed so went to the original location. The snow was a surprise and the light was nice. I now wonder what the sunrise would have been like. Oh well, you’ve got to be in it to win it.

Here's a location with a stunning view that I plan to visit again later in the year. It's a perfect vantage point almost no-one visits, looking over the distant mountains of Eryri.

I have a new video up on my channel, looking at compact cameras to see if they hold up compared to bigger systems, plus an explore around Dinorwic Quarry.

Camera equipment can get heavy. Pro level bodies and lenses, accessories, tripods. It all adds up. Does it need to be like that though? I've used a Canon Po...

Spending this week in North Wales and so a visit to the beach at Dinas Dinlle is obligatory. I captured many images of this scene as the light changed but this was one of the last few as the light faded.

This image feels a bit like it was taken from another mountain, but no, it was taken from sea level, at Ynys. From a small hidden parking place with a few benches is the most surprising vantage point of the mountains east of Porthmadog. From here, Cnicht looks massive and imposing when photographed with a telephoto lens. The drama of the sky and a dusting of snow certainly helps darken the mood.

Those special moments. My hike yesterday was planned to be just that, a hike. I almost didn’t take a camera. Nearing the top of Derwent Edge it became clear that I’d be above the clouds, and when I got there it was magical 😍.
