PLEASE READ 👇 {Widemouth today at 33 degrees}

🚨 In light of recent tragedies and the record breaking heat today, we want to highlight the importance of safe swimming practices on holiday. Stay on coast guarded beaches and swim between the red and yellow flags. Cold water shock is very serious and the ocean is unpredictable, do not swim anywhere isolated.

As I was going to St Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats, each cat had seven kits. Kits, cats, sacks, wives — how many were going to St Ives?

Did you know about this wild ‘castaway’ island in Cornwall?

Just a 15 minute boat ride from Looe harbour, with no mains electricity, no running water and no roads, this tiny 22 acre island is now a marine nature reserve protected and managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

But in the 1960s, two sisters from suburban Surrey — Evelyn and Babs Atkins — did the thing the rest of us only daydream about on a grim Monday. They bought the whole island. Sold up, packed their lives into an open boat, and moved out to sea to live off the land.

Have you ever visited this castaway spot?

5 Cornwall villages even most locals haven't been to! ⚓️

Cadgwith — a working fishing cove on the Lizard with thatched cottages and a single pub that serves the catch from boats you can see pulled up on the beach.

St Just-in-Roseland — not St Just (that's the other one, near Land's End). This is the church in the sub-tropical garden by the river.

Kingsand & Cawsand — twin villages sitting on the Devon border, technically the start of Cornwall when you arrive by ferry from Plymouth. Painted cottages, a brilliant pub on the beach, almost nobody outside the south coast goes here.

Coverack — south coast of the Lizard, harbour pub, blue-roof cottages, the proper "secret Cornwall" most people don't get far enough south to find.

Boscastle — the harbour mouth is one of the most dramatic in Britain, and the village still feels like it did before the 2004 flood. The Witchcraft museum is genuinely fascinating, not gimmicky.

Save this for your next trip!
