Rebecca Phillipson Photography courses Expert, easy to understand tuition, either in a group or one-to-one. If you have a DSLR and want to know how to get the best out of it, please get in touch

Rebecca Phillipson has been teaching Photography since 2001. Most classes are run through Oxfordshire Adult Learning, now a part of Abingdon and Winey College. All current classes are based at the Adult Education Centre in Kidlington, apart from Photoshop classes, which are held at the main Abingdon campus. There is an ongoing programme of classes running throughout the year. Rebecca's house in th

e Isle of Wight, now fully restored after the tank burst in 2012, is well equipped to accommodate a small number of students for a residential course. Please contact Rebecca directly if you would be interested and hopefully a course will run in the near future. To find out more about any of Rebecca's classes or courses or for any other enquiry, please email her at [email protected].

After a term of virtual classes, we have been given the green light to hold face to face classes at Kidlington Adult Education centre this autumn. Classes will be held in a big airy hall, where it is possible to maintain a 2m distance from others.
This term's classes will be Stage 1 (Tuesday evening or Friday morning) and Stage 4 (Thursday morning or evening). Stage 1 is for complete beginners, while Stage 4 is for those who have already completed Stages 1 and 2, or those who know how to use a DSLR camera on manual settings and want some challenging projects and to meet like minded people. All the classes are very enjoyable and demand a reasonable level of commitment, as tasks will be set between classes. To enroll, please go to Abingdon-Witney.ac.uk For further information, please text the tutor on 07939 221771.

Latest news: I am trying to get a new Beginners' class together in Oxford for Thursday mornings, starting as soon as six people say they would like to do it. This will be for complete beginners who want to learn how to use a DSLR camera. Please ask around to help get this course off the ground.
My Exhibition class have produced some fabulous work, which they will be displaying in the Churchill Hospital in Oxford from 16th Jan - 27th Feb 2016. The hospital is always open, but if you would like to come to the Private View, it will be in the afternoon on Sunday 17th January. Everybody welcome.

On the course you will learn how to use a DSLR camera, from the very beginning. By the end you will be using it confidently on manual settings. Cost is just £100.
For more advanced students, I will be running two 5-week practical classes, where we visit a different venue each week. The times are Tuesday evening, 6.30-8.30pm, and Thursday 10-12. Both classes will start the first week of June. Cost £50

I'm pleased to say the restoration work on our Isle of Wight house is now virtually complete, so I will be planning a residential course in the near future. The builders have created a beautiful white studio for me, which will be perfect for portrait work. If you would like to book a short photographic break, to include guidance and some photography tuition, but where you are self catering (I can provide accommodation with a kitchen) and largely independent, please get in touch, giving the dates you were thinking of. This may be the best way of working before I can manage to set up a formal course. I will be on the island for most of the school summer holiday.

This is almost too unfortunate to be made up, but in the early hours of Christmas Eve, our little stream in the Isle of Wight burst its banks and flooded the ground floor of our house, plus the newly renovated Granary, to a depth of about 3 feet. When we heard the news (we were spending Christmas with my mum in North Yorkshire), our first thought was: what if this happens again and again? The property will become uninsurable. In fact, we have now discovered that the flood was caused by a blockage in the bridge under the main A3020, which prevented the water from flowing downstream. While this is partially comforting, it is very disheartening to have to embark on yet another restoration project, which will knock months out of the effective use of the property. So no residential courses for a while, I'm afraid, while we clean out all the mud and dry the place out again. I have had an enquiry about running a course in April, so will hope that we are up and running by then. Please keep in touch for updates.
