💥DRAWING & PAINTING WORKSHOP!💥

Oshorenoya Francis Davisis a Nigerian-born, UK-based artist whose mixed media practice explores solitude, transformation, and identity. His work reflects personal journeys of migration and self-discovery, using painting and drawing to map emotional states, desires, and inner reflection through an ongoing process of becoming an introspective visual storytelling & we are proud to hosting his solo show 'In Solitude, Fantasies & Becoming' in our Mill 1 Gallery at 1853 Studios during Friday 15th – Sunday 17th May

At 1pm on Saturday 16th May Oshorenoya will be hosting a workshop that offers insight into his creative practice, guiding participants through his approach to painting and drawing. It invites participants to explore how ideas develop through observation, experimentation, imagination and process-led making, focusing on the journey of creation rather than the final outcome.

Oshorenoya David Francis & 1853 Studios present “In Solitude, Fantasies & Becoming”

You’re warmly invited to In Solitude, Fantasies & Becoming, a solo exhibition by Oshorenoya David Francis at 1853 Studios, Mill 1 Gallery, Osborne Mill, Oldham, Manchester.

Rooted in his lived experience as a Nigerian immigrant in the UK, after moving to pursue a better life and completing his Master’s degree, he chose to remain and continue growing both as an artist and as an individual. Through his work, Oshorenoya documents intimate moments of solitude, spaces shaped by reflection, emotional struggle, resilience, and self-discovery.

Living away from family and navigating life independently, his journey is marked by both vulnerability and strength, capturing the reality of becoming. The exhibition also reflects his dreams and aspirations, painting visions of success, longing, and future possibilities.

Ultimately, his works reveal how solitude can become a powerful force in shaping identity and personal transformation.

Join us for the opening on 15th May 2026, 6–9pm, with the exhibition continuing 16th–17th May, 11am–4pm. Curated by Obi Nwaegbe and Natasha Virli. We look forward to welcoming you.

In The Studio With.... Kim Hubball!

We spent the afternoon with to talk about her practice & upcoming exhibition 'Order, Chaos, Harmony' that launches on Friday night in the Mill 2 Gallery 6pm -9pm

We are absolutely honoured to be showing Kim's work, having been a studio resident at 1853 since it opened in 2019, this exhibition is a celebration of her life as an artist.

Kim’s practice is defined by an instinctive, non-verbal dialogue with her materials. She describes her process as ‘following a thread that’s not sure of where it’s going, allowing the work to dictate its own destination through bold shapes, collage, and spontaneous mark-making.

Expect colour, playfulness and reflection!

Wow! What an incredible (jam packed!) year of events we’ve had! Thank you SO much to everyone we’ve worked with this year, and everyone who came to an exhibition, watched a show or participated in a workshop - it’s been epic. 💥
