Make it Easy has now closed its doors...

It was the combination of two groups of friends who want to share their dedication and passion for analog photography. The idea behind Make it Easy was to provide an environment where people of any background can learn, share and practice analog photography. Make it Easy came about when The Photo Parlour in Nottingham and Take it Easy Lab in Leeds decided

to see how they could create a space to support people, from beginners to current practitioners, in making the mystery of analog photography simple. Through online resources, as well as physical access to facilities such as cameras, darkrooms and scanners, our aim was to help people start making photographs instead of taking them.

A very special Photo Social, in this session our evening course group will share work and we will update you on the Sequence build! 👷‍♂️👨‍🏫🏙️

We are so excited to be hosting another Photo Social, kindly accomodated by Broadway Cinema in their Mezz Lounge space 🥳

Our photo socials are open to everyone and completely free of charge 🥰

In this social we will be sharing work made by our evening course participants and sharing all the news about the new Sequence darkroom and teaching space at Backlit in Nottingham!😆

This is a friendly event for anyone who would like to share their work or connect with others in the Nottingham photography community.

We encourage attendees to bring along some of their images or bodies of work to share with the group. However, please don’t feel obliged to bring anything, you’re more than welcome to come along simply to join in and support others. The social is a chance to meet new people and enjoy engaging with your peers. Everyone is welcome.

We have a few principles that we try to adhere to during the socials.

The first one is quite a firm one… Be kind. There is a place for more substantial critique in creative practice, but the social is intended as a space to encourage others and lift them up, not to shoot them down.

It is not compulsory to show work but if you would like to do so, we ask that you bring physical prints. Not only is it nice to show something tangible, but it’s also good to spread work out on a table and let people really look at them!

We are usually able to get through 6 peoples work during a social, this is decided on a first come first served basis so if you would like to share work, please arrive 10 mins before the social with your prints.

We also have a no gear talk rule… discussing your pictures is more constructive when we’re considering why we’re making work as opposed to the tools we used to create it. You’re welcome to have gear chat in the pub afterwards!
If you’d like to attend, please book a ticket so we can keep an eye on numbers. Everyone is welcome, and it’s completely free.

We’re sharing a paid participation opportunity from The Sisterhood Collective, part of Sequence, for women photographers in Nottingham.

The Sisterhood is working with the University of Nottingham on a project exploring female urban belonging in Nottingham city centre: the places we feel safe, seen, welcome, excluded, connected, or watched.

Across three workshops, participants will use digital photography, mapping and conversation to reflect on the city, with the project culminating in a public exhibition at Nottingham Central Library.

There are currently 2 places remaining, and the call is now being opened more widely to women photographers based in Nottingham beyond the Sisterhood’s existing community.

To take part, you’ll need to be able to attend all three in-person workshops in central Nottingham, contribute to the exhibition, and optionally complete an audio-recorded interview.

Please note that submitting the form is an expression of interest only and does not guarantee a place. Selected participants will be contacted once all entries have been reviewed.

Thank you fee: £350 in digital Sainsbury’s vouchers.

For more information and to register your interest, head to and use the link in their bio.

If you’re unsure whether it’s for you, feel free to message the Sisterhood directly.

🚨Big update and last call for our exciting evening course!🚨

The walls are going up 🙌🏻 It’s starting to look like the amazing funded community space we’ve been planning for the last year!

Huge shout out to for working his ass off and for supporting what we do ❤️

Also, our evening course starts next week so it’s the last chance to grab a spot 🤓

🚨 SEQUENCE BUILD UPDATE 🚨

We need your support more than ever!

We’re working really hard to get this space up and running for our amazing community but, funds are tight and we need your help in spreading the word and sharing our GoFundMe (link in bio)

Every penny that comes in goes into paying for materials and contractors to help finish the space and we’re putting in all the labour we can to keep the costs down.

Our new space will accommodate colour and black and white darkrooms, a mural enlarger and a lovely room work space. We will also be expanding into a space for our main teaching area and photobook library in the summer.

Please also look at our evening course (link in bio) as the funds from this go directly to the cause.

Please share our GoFundMe and donate if you can.

Much love and more updates soon,

and

We’re still hard at work on the new Sequence teaching and darkroom space! It’s A LOT of hard graft but we’re really excited to be making progress.

Yesterday took down the original ceiling as we need to overboard the whole thing properly for fire regs. It’s a shame we can’t keep those lovely beams but we’ll make it look nice, we promise!

If you would like to support us please do checkout our GODFUNDME and our new evening course by clicking the link in our bio. All our work is voluntary and every penny we make goes towards making our new space a reality.

Shares, like and comment a go a long way too!

Thanks for all your support so far.

Much love,
Dan and the Sequence Team ❤️

Introduction to Photography - How to Make Photographs

In this six session evening course, we hope to demystify the process of photography and help you understand how to develop your own projects

A series of workshops focused on building projects, making work, and developing your photographic practice.
This season of six photography workshops has been designed by Sequence founders Daniel Wheeler and Dr Mark Rawlinson, Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Nottingham. The course aims to support your photographic practice and provide practical tools to help you make work, build projects, and expand your thinking about photography.

Why do we make pictures? What is my subject? How do I move beyond single images? Where does my work sit within photography? How do I begin to think about making a project? These questions, and others, will be explored throughout the sessions.

The aim of the course is to give you focused time to reflect on your work, make photographs, and receive support and constructive feedback from the tutors. The sessions will encourage new ways of thinking about your practice and help you develop confidence in making and discussing your work.

For more information check the link in our bio.
