A more technical course this time, using strong contrast between light and shadow for a Film Noir shoot at Bassetlaw Museum.

Jenny was an amazing model and the group produced some incredible images (not so easy narrowing it down for this post).

We focused on controlling a single light source, adjusting angles and positioning to shape the scene. Props like the Venetian blinds helped to bring about the noir style.

We were lucky enough to be inside the stunning setting of the museum, getting to use the Georgian staircase and rooms, adding to the look.

An amazing session with everyone getting hands-on with a very beautiful photography style.

A really enjoyable photography course at Retford Arts Hub this weekend.

For a lot of the group, this was their first experience using a DSLR. Over three hours I went over ISO, aperture, shutter speed, depth of field and composition and the images are gorgeous.

Always one of my favourite parts of teaching is reviewing the images afterwards and seeing confidence grow so quickly through out the sessions.

Had a brilliant few weeks running our photography course at Idle Valley Nature Reserve with Alan and Georgina, in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council.

This one was for beginners and those revisiting the art, and it was great seeing everyone’s unique perspective come through in their shots. We can all be looking at the same scene, but what each person picks out is always so different.

Film week is always one of my favourites, and even with a bit of drizzle, the nature reserve gave us such a beautiful backdrop to work with. 🌿
