Some of you may have read elsewhere on here how I watched a fox family of four in long grass as light diminished to a level where the camera simply refused to focus itself. So I resorted 'old school' manual focus at distance in long grass. I could just about find the subjects along with many obligatory blades of grass covering each cub's eye .. what to? nothing just post it and lets imagine a cleaner image. Still got to watch them (and the dog fox) which makes me happy always!! :) hence the posting of another memorable evening around dusk.

Late evening in town I sat near the foxes and watched cubs scamper around in tall grass absolutely impossible conditions to get focus in low light after 8.30. So I just watched them and as I packed up to walk back I came across this handsome dog fox. I have seen him before and recognise him just because he is a bit mote tolerant. I had some chicken left over and decided to walk toward him stop halfway and throw the bits on the grass. He watched and soon as I turned my back he was running towards the food. I crouched down with camera and we settled into this stand off moment. I could tell he was trying to decide if it was safe. Eventually after ten minutes he was on the chicken picking up fast and away into cover. Only to pop out a head as if to make sure I was leaving :)

Baby barn owl time of year and a box of four was active yesterday evening with two sometimes three clambering about in or on top of the box. As I walked away the adult appeared for the first time in the evening around 21:10 it sat on the ledge then flew back the way it came between the farm buildings.

The box is about 30 metres up on the side of an enormous barn by a wildlife enlightened farmer. All pics taken at distance using 800mm lens and cropped.

The other den was difficult to photograph I crawled up slowly to get with twenty metres I could see vixen's ears poking up in the grass and she had not seen me so I just watched the five of them, almost give up on photography in this long grass. Eventually I had to leave so I stood slowly and got this capture of her as she bobbed up and down in the grass as I backed away.
