New YouTube video on the Canon R6V just dropped on YouTube. What a banger of a camera, probably the best valued camera on the market at the minute. Very tempted to sell my R6 III to pick it up! What's your thoughts on the R6V?

Lessons I've learned after posting nearly 800 times on YouTube over the last 5 years

This is exactly what I'd do👇 - Follow for more filmmaking and content creation tips!

1. I would 100% prioritise audio before anything else.

I'd much rather shoot on my phone with a high quality lav mic like the DJI mic Mini, than shoot on my Canon C50 with poor audio. What you say and how it comes across is far more important than pretty visuals.

2. I would next learn and master lighting.

Again, I'd much rather spend the money and time learning how to light a scene than spending all my money on an expensive camera. A light with a soft box using your phone will look far better than using a Sony FX3 with poor lighting, every day of the week.

3. Once I have my audio and lighting set I would then prioritise getting a high quality lens over an expensive camera. A 35mm F/1.8 or a 85mm F/1,8 on an APSC camera will give you better results than an expensive full frame camera and a kit lens. Spend the money on high quality glass first, then when you feel like the APSC camera is holding you back, then upgrade to the full frame, but not before you have a solid lens collection!

1: Neewer HB80C - This is my favourite light for not only content creation, but also to light the dance floor when I film weddings and that's because of the built in battery which makes it fully wireless. This makes it so easy to quickly move around get different shots so quickly. It's also 80 watts and is full RGB, fully recommend and link is in my bio!

2: Wireless lav mic - A wireless lav mic makes content creation so easy. The one I'm using at the moment is the DJI Mic 3 and it's absolutely tiny and lightweight. Just pin it onto yourself and now you have high quality audio wherever you stand, you don't need to worry about being too close to the camera so you can really get creative with some of your shots. Also high quality audio is so much more important than visuals!

3: 35mm F/1.8 - one of the first lenses you should buy. Really high quality and one of my favourite focal lengths. Pair that with the F/1.8 aperture and you can get a nice shallow depth of field on a wider lens which will make your footage stand out compared to phone footage. The F/1.8 also allows for better performance in low light!

The Canon R6 Mark III is honestly a phenomenal camera, it might be the best hybrid camera on the market at the minute, especially for the price, but it doesn't mean it's perfect as there's 2 flaws that make me pick my C50 over it most of the time, but let's get into the good bits first.

My favourite feature? C-Log 2. The dynamic range this camera has is unbelievable, the highlight recovery is ridiculous, you can push the highlights so far to expose for the shadows and reduce the noise in your shot as Canon cameras struggle when under exposing the shadows when it comes to noise. The contrast and colours in C-Log 2 makes this one of the best looking cameras you can buy in 2026, it's beautiful.

The downsampled 4K 50p from the 7K sensor with no crop. One of the only cameras to have this feature, something the Canon R5 Mark II can't do, and at this price point is amazing. Super high quality from the 7K sensor meaning slow motion footage can look just as good as shooting in 25p.

The duel base ISO of 800 and 6400 is so good for low light scenarios, this camera is a beast in low light.

Now the 2 flaws I mentioned, the first being the overheating as it has no fan. This camera can overheat in 4K 50p in hot conditions, either outside in 30 degree heat, or inside with a lot of lights, I was using it for 5 minutes in 32 degree heat and the overheating bar went to 6-7 bars and I had to switch it off and use a portable fan to try and cool it down during couple portraits at a wedding. Not ideal.

The 2nd flaw is something people hate me saying but I can't help it, and that is the IBIS. It really isn't good under 35mm and it makes me feel sick sometimes because the jello warpy corners, it looks horrible.

Those are the reasons why I grab my C50 all the time but don't let those small flaws put you off because this camera is absolutely phenomenal. Comment your thoughts on this camera below and hit follow for more content like this!
