Help Save Florida’s Million Dollar Sharks

In 2016 Shark Diving in Florida generated more than $221 million in revenue — 200 TIMES the value of shark fishing in the entire United States. Shark tourism created 3700 jobs that paid $111 million, and the total economic impact was a whopping $377 Million. (Oceana)

U.S. Shark Fin Exports were a tiny $1.03 million (Yes, there is a shark fin industry in the U.S.!)

Surprisingly, Florida Senator, Marco Rubio is opposing the bill, and no one knows why. A dead shark can bring in $100. A live shark can bring $2 million to tourism in its lifetime. Shark fishing in the entire U.S. is only a million dollar business. Rubio is abandoning the Florida dive industry.

Team Sharkwater continues to work to save sharks through the world crisis. Tell the U.S. Senate to vote YES to the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act. This bill allows the fishing industry to continue - it just bans the sale of the fins, and stops illegal fins from being shipped through U.S. ports.
