NIE Photographic Society

NIE Photographic Society We are a small social photography club based at Mossley Pavillion in Newtownabbey. Come along to improve your photography and have a cup of tea!

Originally formed within NIE, the club is open to everyone and new members are always welcome. The NIE Photographic Society was formed in 1975 by the then staff photographer James Moreland FBIPP AFIAP for employees of the Northern Ireland Electricity Service. Being a member of NIE PS gives you the opportunity to meet fellow photographers and learn from them in a social atmosphere. We have members

at all skill levels and we actively promote an educational element to the club both in one to one assistance, demonstration and tutorial evenings as well as open conversation about the skills and techniques members use and continue to develop. You can also submit your work to a number of competitions, exhibitions and salons throughout the year. As a member of the East Antrim Photographic Union we compete in an inter-club
competition open to all skill levels including beginners. We have some members who participate in audio visual work and have been very successful over the years in the AV festival held at Ballyearl Arts and leisure centre. The society actively encourages photographers of different skill levels and is always keen to welcome to photographers from all backgrounds. The Society is a member of the Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA), which in turn is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB)

The Society has recently re-located to Mossley Pavilion in Newtownabbey and hope for a long and successful residence at this superb venue.

ICM in photography, or Intentional Camera Movement, is a technique where the photographer deliberately moves the camera during the exposure to create abstract, artistic effects. It's a way to turn motion into a compositional element, resulting in blurred or streaked images that resemble paintings
