There are many amazing shots of kingfishers (and this isn't one of them). Sometimes though to get a good shot you have to go through a process. Firstly identifying a subject, in this case Paula and I identified a kingfisher nest with about 4 kingfishers in. Then observe behaviour, we could see them flying up and down the river but there were no visible posts to land on. Develop a plan to get a good shot, in this case put out a visible post. Test and revise your plan, the kingfisher has now landed on the post and I need to revise the plan.
Next steps:
1. Reduce distance to target.
2. Shoot in better light (in this case I will need to shoot late afternoon/evening.
3. Improve background. Twig in background is annoying.

We were delighted to host the very talented Dan Willis Photography a few weeks ago. Dan is a lovely fellow as well as a great photographer, videographer and wildlife story teller. Here is the video he has released. I'm not going to lie it was a proud moment for Paula and I after all the work we've put in with the tawnys. We will be re-starting the owl experiences later this week so get in touch if you'd like a chance of capturing these magnificant birds of prey doing what they do best. Hunt.

Our next hide is going to be in the garden of our little Airbnb in LA 🤣 lots to keep us amused this morning! Love that the red-whiskered bulbul escaped life in cages in the 60’s and are now living their best lives in California 👊

Update 12th May 2026- This mornings owlet welfare checks was interesting. All seemed tucked up first thing no doubt due to cold weather over the last couple of days. I could just make out two owlets in the second site we have identified. Having got today's client checked in I had a few tasks to run. On return Roly had emerged into the windy morning. He's looking in good health. To my surprise on moving the client over to the second site I found one of the owlets out and about on a tree quite far from the nest site. It has baffled me how he or she got there. Anyway we need a name for this owlet, preferable gender neutral as we're unsure of s*x yet. (Owlet in the last picture). Also due to a last minute cancellation we have two spaces become available for tomorrow. If you want an opportunity to see owls out hunting as well as seeing little owlets out and about then please get in touch. It is £60 per person.

EXCITING NEWS!! We have more tawny owl chicks. We have found a second nest of tawny chicks so that makes 5 chicks in total now. If you want a chance to photograph these we only have a couple of slots left for this week between Monday and Friday. Its £60 for a morning session
